The Arabian Sunrise that Never Came
A lovely, tea like jasmine given some slight terpenic and earthy aspects from frankincense, it’s creaminess boosted by sandalwood and depth amplified by oud, the latter two and rosewood providing a sweet, spicy, woody backbone.
I must admit, while the excellent jasmine does evoke the theme of Arabian nights, it’s a bit too strong for me to easily imagine the desert sunrise as supposedly intended. Though it does begin to subside “as the sun rises,” I think an overtly mineralic component, perhaps ambergris, could prove quite useful here. I believe that’s partly what gives Zzyzx Rd, one of Happyland’s better blends, it’s wonderful sandy facet, though with them being on the other end of the spectrum I’m not sure if it might be from a synthetic note that can’t be easily replicated naturally.
All in all, it’s a very nice blend, just more evocative of a different time of day than I’d imagined. Sillage intimate to moderate, longevity high. Becomes more woodsy in the drydown, which is very nice, but again just a little off the mark for me.
