Very interesting, a reminder of fougeres from the 90s, yet very much of today. Under the name "Grey Stone Castle," the house of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity at Cornell University is known. The perfume was inspired by the desire to follow in the footsteps of those who are (or were) successful in all areas of life.
The scent starts invigorating like a cologne, with a hint of freshly lime-washed wall in the background. Over time, it becomes woodier, the vetiver becoming increasingly nutty, but the freshness from the lemongrass remains and, together with the oakmoss, imparts a light herbaceousness. Absolutely no sweetness here, which I greatly appreciate. It clearly tends towards the stereotypically masculine direction. The ingredients are noticeably of superior quality, largely of natural origin. The longevity is more than 8 hours, and the sillage is pleasant. A refined, modern scent with a vintage touch. A fragrance that exudes class and confidence.
For context: I can hardly relate to the statements made so far, none of them. The heart notes are very "fougeric," this is not a rose scent, at least not more than one would classify the original Rive Gauche pour Homme as a rose scent. No trace of "compote." Dreamy like a "Sleeping Beauty castle," it is not. Not spicy either, at least not if one thinks of spices. And Vétiver Extraordinaire, even if the notes are somewhat similar, to classify it as a scent twin goes too far. Apparently, I smelled a completely different fragrance. When I finally see how the disappointing "Chypre Siam" (whose kaffir lime resembles the lemongrass used here) is hyped, even though it is so hopelessly inferior to "Grey Stone Castle" in its category, I find that unfair. Such is the world.
