It knocks you out...

I’m not into sweet scents. Cinnamon, vanilla, tonka bean; they really have a hard time with me. Accordingly, my expectations for Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille were quite low.

Even the good Tom has a tough time with me. Except for Grey Vetiver (regardless of the version), no fragrance has blown me away so far. I do have Noir, but it hardly gets used. Even with Tuscan Leather, the spark has yet to ignite. So, as I said, my expectations were not very high.

On Saturday, I was in Cologne with my family enjoying the nice weather and went to Schildergasse in the Turkish cushions.
Down the escalator, once to the right. There stand or rather lie the Private Blend fragrances by Mr. Ford.
I approached a friendly saleswoman and off I went with the stuff....

HOLY SWEDEN!!!! This stuff knocks you out. I’ll try to describe my thoughts and impressions of this scent: vanilla, a lot of sweet vanilla, which is held in check by something smoky and spicy. It smells bitter and burnt when you really take a sniff. In my opinion, this scent progression hardly changes.
As a scent cloud, it is perceived as very pleasant. But to be honest, I don’t like it.

A big plus point is the longevity. It’s incredible. Sprayed on Saturday at 11:00 AM, I could still smell the fragrance on Sunday morning. Amazing. The sillage is room-filling and was perceived as pleasant by my wife.

As for the rating: Since I generally don’t like sweet scents, I can’t rate this fragrance poorly for that reason. But I don’t like it. Due to the outstanding longevity, it gets 70% from me.
No, dear Tom, I’m sorry. We won’t be friends anytime soon.

PS: The nice thing about this community and the exchange among each other is that you slowly realize which scents and scent types you like and what suits you...

PPS: On the same day, I also tested Eau des Baux by L'Occitane. It’s not a scent twin. It smells like incense.

Great comment! I felt the same way at first; I couldn't understand the hype around TL and TV. Now I really like both, so I guess it’s just a matter of time?

For "Eau des Baux," I recommend the second test. The first time, I only smelled incense too.
