Of Little Bees and Flowers
When Tom needed the cash, he got a bit closer to being lifted by me ;-)
What I mean is: I recently became the owner of his latest creation, which I can't find anything negative about. Tom Ford can't either. Although I don't know him personally (haha), I hold him in high regard as a creative mind and visionary. A man who seems to be able to do it all. Making films included - touché.
But now to the exciting part, the one that is relevant for us perfume lovers:
The scent.
Velvet Orchid Lumière cannot deny its lineage from Velvet Orchid; they undoubtedly share the same DNA. However, while Velvet Orchid still hints at minimal notes of decaying flowers, furniture polish, and "feminine charm," Lumière is more straightforward. And by that, I certainly don't mean blandly polished-boring. Its floral quality is much more of a summery tingle than dusty; the scent feels shimmering and sparkling, strongly reminiscent of flower pollen tickling the nose when you stick it too deep into a bouquet. Honey as another element seems only logical and consistent here. It provides minimal sweetness, underlined by citrusy aromas - did the bees nibble on the mandarin blossom?
I find the rum to be less alcoholic than in the previous version. It is milder, with vanilla and caramelized notes, just the way I like it. The overall picture is a bit creamier; one should not be misled by the sparkling top and partly heart notes.
For me, this new interpretation is an absolute hit!
Lively, cheerful, light (without becoming shallow or trivial!), and above all, incredibly stimulating. It really makes me crave warm summer nights, shimmering heat, and joyful evenings with my girlfriends. It feels young without being girly, sensual without wanting to seduce, and cheerful without appearing forced.
Wonderful!
