Diamond Doll Trina 2007

Together with ZARA Night pour Homme V, this perfume surprised me with the box's presence and the bottle. Although belonging to The Icons collection, it comes out of the chorus, and instead of a butter-colored or dark gray cylinder, here we find a beautiful cobalt blue box. The bottle reminds me of a lot of Issey Miyake l'Eau Bleu, not for the shape but for the blue glass. Notwithstanding, the two fragrances have nothing to do with one another.

Each of us is free to decide which sex would be more suitable for each fragrance if a scent is to be attributed to gender. This floral aspect gives it a feminine touch, even if it's not entirely unbearable for men. Fresh, light, and sexy, ZARA The Poplin Shirt smells like something in between skin and clothing, creating a subtle aura of laundry-fresh cleanliness around its subject. Nothing with the fabric softener vibe, yet something akin to the real essence of fresh and snowy. A fragrance that both men and women can wear for any occasion, its cheerful, radiant trail conveys the art of perfume and living in equal measure. The cologne develops through three different stages: initially, it is crisp and green citrus fruits, then warm and watery florals, and afterward, subtle musks and aromatic woods.

The start is good enough, but it takes some getting used to it. The Poplin Shirt opens with a blast of tart and sour zesty accord, shimmering, mouthwatering bergamot, and a lemon pinch. The citrus fruits are evident as a fresh component that stays there for about two minutes and gives the impression of lemons being squeezed over ice. Later followed by soft floral notes, with the laundry musk and the sweet-as-a-kiss orange blossom being the overwhelming olfactory leaders in this fragrance.

They add a friendly note of jasmine. I love jasmine notes, especially in women's fragrances, but also in unisex or purely male fragrances if they are not too loud. Here the presence is limited and has a harmonious effect. Then there are the white flowers, very fresh like the flowers just bloomed in spring. Sensual magnolia reigns supreme, with its touches of lemon and milk, but even poisoning lily-of-the-valley rises. Among the plethora of white blossoms, I catch a whiff of rose popping up, jammy and fruity rose, which grows if you stick your nose on your pulse point where you sprayed it. This cologne's floral quality took me by surprise, mainly because I was expecting all citrus and musk and nothing in-between. At The Poplin Shirt's core, we have a hefty white and green dose of lily-of-the-valley that links the citrus and musks seamlessly while adding its own slightly dirty amount of indole that reminds you that what you're wearing is a perfume and not just an aura of clean.

Delicate woods are more in the background here, as floral notes propel themselves beautifully into the foreground and refined citrus freshness. There are even lots of musks, which not only add a freshness that is somewhere between clean laundry and cold summer air, but they also give The Poplin Shirt a plush texture feels like a second skin before seamlessly making way for velvety softwoods.

The composition is round and harmonious, especially after a large hour. Overall, an excellent perfume for the hottest days and suitable for beautiful summer and spring evenings. The sillage starts very well and is well present for a few hours and wears off after several hours. I imagine this cologne rocked on an elegant white shirt for a wedding, a party, or a regal event outdoor. If you love fresh laundry, clean skin type scents, though, try a sample of this. It's one of those where I keep sniffing my arm because it's just that nice. And it doesn't feel weak or insubstantial, as "light" perfumes often do. Another thing about it is that it's tenacious. It will stay with you throughout the day. Even though you won't notice it, it will be there, and suddenly you will see it and realize how clean and composed you smell. It will have the same effect on your audience. Those around you might not notice it explicitly, but there will be an awareness of well-groomed cleanliness occurring on a more subconscious level. As far as masculine or feminine goes, this is right in the middle. A fragrance that is quite positively luminous. An exquisite sense of freshness in a musky and floral eau de toilette.

Bright, clear, clean, fresh, floral, Poplin Shirt joined my collection of Zara fragrances, nestled between fabric softener and perfume.

I wasn't aware that Zara released fragrances until 2020.

I associate the brand more with clothing and fast fashion.

Both are not particularly interesting topics for me.

Originally, I was drawn in by Vibrant Leather, which I smelled on a coworker (as a dupe for Aventus, as I later found out).

For the price of drugstore fragrances (around €15-20), I was able to sniff through several alternatives to well-known brands, as well as original creations (there were numerous variations of the Aventus DNA, but also very creative scents like one of my absolute favorite Zara fragrances, Cool Heights => mint and dark berries).

The other Zara fragrances I acquired were heavily synthetic in nature, which also gave them an extraordinarily long-lasting quality (e.g., Freshie Seoul or Lisboa).

However, Poplin Shirt is not one of them and is, for me, the quintessential polo shirt scent!

You can also be pleasantly surprised.

For a sweet-floral freshie, the longevity and sillage are around 6-7 hours.

After about 2-3 hours, it becomes close to the skin.

But it fully serves its purpose and is a real pick-me-up.
