pleasant coconut
Because she knows of my interest in eucalyptus, dear Awesomeness sent me a sample of this. I have to give points to the creator for thinking to mix eucalyptus with sweetness, which I don't think I've ever smelled before. It doesn't quite work but it was an interesting effort.

To my nose, this starts off with a flat, dried, slightly sweet coconut scent similar to that of coconut Lifesaver candies, with an interesting coldness from eucalyptus. It's odd and not quite pretty. The eucalyptus doesn't stick around very long, though. Three hours later, all I get is soft, generic coconut that is close to that of Bath and Body Works' Hawaiian Coconut Fragrance Mist. (The label of the BBW mist states that it is "an island vacation of fresh coconut weater, sunkissed citrus and ocean musk.")

This is entirely likeable, but I can't imagine anyone finding it thrilling.

California leaving, or Piña Colada with Eucalyptus
If the Mamas and the Papas had known this scent, their hit would probably have been called California leaving!

I admit, when it comes to coconut in fragrant form, I become a wuss. I am also sure what might have caused this aversion in me.

I come from the deepest southwest of Germany, and in my childhood, there were many Americans in our town. A friend of my mother's worked for the American army, and I had early contact with American children. My American friends always smelled intensely of coconut, especially in summer; they thought the scent was so pleasantly fresh! While swimming together, I then discovered what caused this smell-it was the sunscreen! That scent quickly got on my nerves back then, and it still does today; California is unfortunately no exception.

California is both annoying and exhausting, and nothing fits together for my scent perception.

At first, the mixture of coconut and eucalyptus smells like an old plastic doll that has been lying in the blazing sun for too long.

Then I have the impression of sucking on an eucalyptus candy while simultaneously sipping a Piña Colada. Well, that is indeed a quirky scent experience, but it is beyond interesting or even pleasant, especially since the plastic smell still lingers slightly.

I can’t recognize any further changes after that, except that the intensity fades a bit, but not enough for me to ignore the scent.

I will not test California again, that much is certain, and I hope that the other samples do not hold similar surprises for me.

So, if it smells like this in California, then I definitely don’t want to go there!

The Koala Magnet
Attention! Safety warning!

Please do not apply this fragrance near koalas, they won't leave you alone!

So, jokes aside ... Unfortunately, I can only guess what lies behind this meter-thick layer of eucalyptus; I can't penetrate through it.

The fragrance concentration of eucalyptus must be frighteningly high, beyond 80%.

Every now and then, I believe a small crack in a gigantic gate opens to release a hint of coconut, but the eucalyptus giant slams the gate shut with a loud bang.

For those who like eucalyptus, this is surely something special; for everyone else, like me, unfortunately nothing ...
