Sweet pineapple cuts through the immortelle and saffron combo
After trying out Chimilka and Great Lord, it’s time I end things with Sun Cities.
Just like with Chimilka, I find that this fragrance is well-balanced. The fruity note arrives all juicy, tart and fragrant. The pineapple here is very realistic and quite lovely! I find that it cuts through the immortelle and saffron note and avoids the burnt plasticky note I got from Great Lord. There is a tad of sweetness that’s a bit overwhelming since pineapple is already sweet and immortelle has that honeyed sweetness to it. Saffron stays on the spicy and slightly metallic edge: it adds a sense of alien strangeness to the fragrance (if that makes any sense). Leather also starts to appear but it solidly supports the pineapple note. Drydown is sugary sweet with a ghost of fruitiness still present. The patchouli note also starts to rise up. It’s more apparent in this fragrance.
Overall the Triptych collection is nice, but I’m not sure it’s worth the price. I do have to say I found it interesting to try a collection where only one note has been altered. It was a learning moment to see how notes interacted with each other here. I do suggest you sample them out, but to me it won’t be added as a full bottle to my collection.
