Antique Wooden Chest
Ensar Oud Kinamantan. What a fantastic Borneo oil this one is. It harbors a unique texture and profile for an oil from this region. The first thing that comes to mind smelling this oil is an antique wooden chest. Other things would be an ancient forest paved with velvety moss and a fine, bitter-green incense smoke infusion that permeates it. Ultimately, the old wooden chest imagery is what this oil brings forth each time I swipe some.
I love dry oils and the ones that bear an ancient wooden smell. That's what Kinamantan offers and accomplishes better than most in this regard. A dry wood aroma, only slightly punctuated by that Borneo sunshine and vanillic sweetness, with plenty of cinnamon. The latter is the most Bornean part of this oil. The cinnamon facet is one of the most noticeable here. A hyperrealistic note that is vividly present in the opening. Laced to it is the incense smoke that abounds. A fine smoke that brings to mind Port Moresby, only that it feels more delicate and ethereal here. Then the hard, dry wood profile takes hold, slightly nutty, cinnamon-dusted, and faintly sweet. There are flickers of mossy green floor here and there, making me picture this magical forest right before dawn.
A most captivating Borneo oil and among my favorites from this region. If you like that antique wood aroma, give this one a try. It is one of the woodiest Borneos that I have come across.
