Japanese (Almost) Chypre

That this fragrance couldn't establish itself on the market doesn't surprise me. At the time of its release, it wasn't really trendy. In the late 80s, melon scents, aquatic notes, or Eternity were in vogue, and fragrances with a soapy chypre touch weren't really popular.

As already mentioned, Essential starts with a really fine, but not exactly clean soapy note. I think the chamomile causes this slight dirtiness.

Alongside this soap, a really beautiful raspberry joins in from the heart note. The flowers support the berry rather than contributing much to the scent. This accord is very unique, but that's exactly what gives Essential its special charm.

The woody-powdery base then comes through delicately after a long time and skillfully rounds off a truly wonderful fragrance experience.

The longevity is good and the intensity is not too overwhelming.

Well, to be a true chypre, it actually lacks the moss, but I don't mind that too much.

I don't have to worry about my bank account, as this gem can no longer be officially purchased.

When I first sprayed it, I thought it had gone off. The top note was so unusual for me!
Today, I really appreciate that slight stiffness and enjoy the messy entrance. :)

I'm surprised you give this a 100%. It's way too floral-fruity for me.

When I tested it shortly after its release, I really didn't like it at all, but I was definitely too young back then. And when I finally wanted to get to know it properly, it was only available at outrageous prices, grumble.

This nasty, ugly, dirty chamomile then! ;)
