A leather scent that doesn't have to hide from its role model

As a passionate blind buy shopper of budget fragrances, I was particularly excited about Zara's interpretation of a leather accord, which, according to community opinions, is reminiscent of significantly more expensive prestige scents. The opening surprises with a cool saffron note, immediately accompanied by a subtle violet leaf. Unlike many warm leather fragrances, the first impression conveys a rather distant, precise aura, like a new leather jacket that has not yet been broken in.

Then the heart note unfolds, where a restrained, slightly sweet raspberry appears, giving the cool leather an unexpected dimension. This fruity component, however, remains controlled and never tips into the artificial. The jasmine that appears alongside is hardly recognizable as a floral note but rather adds a subtle freshness to the scent. The incense facet present according to the fragrance pyramid shows a gently smoky quality, adding depth to the composition. In the drydown, a dry, somewhat one-dimensional leather dominates, rounded out by amber. Interestingly, I also perceive a certain teenage note here, although it is not officially listed. I have already experienced this with other Zara fragrances. Possibly a side effect of the combination of violet leaf and saffron.

With a longevity of 5-6 hours on the skin, this leather scent proves to be a solid performer, while it lasts 8-10 hours on clothing. The projection is moderate in the first 2 hours and then becomes increasingly close to the skin. Those looking for strong projection might be disappointed here. However, this restraint is an advantage for the office environment. I recommend about three to four sprays for optimal effect, with a reapplication in the afternoon being sensible if you want to wear it for longer occasions.

The cooler seasons of autumn, winter, and spring are particularly ideal for this scent, while it may be too heavy for summer. The fragrance fits perfectly in a business casual setting, where it exudes seriousness without being intrusive. In the evening, it works well for formal occasions. However, it lacks the radiance and complexity for special events. Age-wise, I see it more suited for the 25+ target group, as the leather component requires a certain maturity.

The fragrance offers an exceptional price-performance ratio, especially considering its similarity to significantly more expensive niche perfumes. The bottle is simple and functional with a wooden cap. The precise spray head produces a fine fragrance cloud.

Still L.E.A.T.H.E.R. is a successful budget entry into the world of leather fragrances. Not as complex and multifaceted as its high-priced counterparts, but with a distinctive character due to the interesting combination of cool leather and subtle raspberry. Ideal for anyone who loves luxurious leather fragrances but is not willing to spend high amounts for them.
