Too quickly shot the powder
Now it seems the time has come. Until now, I could always boast that I could smell everything, all those substances for which others are anosmic. And sometimes it didn't even seem to be an advantage for me. But now - have I discovered anosmia in myself? How else should I explain that I hardly perceive any heart note in 6 from The Fragrance Kitchen? The top note is still all right. I smell bitter-spicy citrus peels, probably grapefruit, and a fruity but not sour freshness. I also already notice that the whole thing is underlaid with musk in the background.
And then the fruity-creamy sprightliness fades away and there comes - somehow nothing, or rather nothing significant. Just a very thin ribbon of jasmine with a hint of zest on light musk.
Is that how it’s supposed to be?
Others here wrote that it is a powder scent, even an extremely powdery one. I was really looking forward to that because I love powdery scents. But I simply smell nothing of it.
Well - that I often do not recognize rose as such, and about the causes I suspect, I have already written a blog post. So it doesn’t surprise me that I can’t identify rose. For me, 6 from The Fragrance Kitchen remains a very weak, slightly sweet fruity floral scent in the heart note, yes, there is indeed more in it than just jasmine and it is also rather soft, so yes, it is more powdery than creamy, but powder scent - no. If I didn’t know that I had applied perfume, I would almost think the scent was the residue from the shower gel. The most intense scent I still perceive is the fruity note from the beginning and the musk base. Nice, but definitely no more than that, especially since I don’t like musk that much.
It’s interesting that not much more comes through. I only smell musk and a hint of amber. But woodiness? Not at all. And that really surprises me because I can smell woody fragrance materials like ambroxan, iso E super, and cashmeran extremely strongly. There must be some other fragrance material in here, or simply extremely little of it. So the base also remains a weak musk bore for me.
It raises the question of whether this is one of those super delicate scents that are common in Japan or Sweden, and which I naturally find weak compared to an Amouage signature that is really very intense. However, the strong top note of 6 from The Fragrance Kitchen does not fit that. But maybe others don’t smell this top note as intensely? That it’s once again the other way around, that I perceive something much stronger than others? Is all the delicate stuff overshadowed by the artificial fruit and musk that I smell particularly intensely? That could also be.
Either way, the scent unfortunately doesn’t win any awards from me. But regardless of whether it’s due to anosmia or not: I can now understand much better how disappointed one can be when one cannot perceive something that others seem to smell at all.
