I've often heard similar sentiments from people I know. This type of Oud is probably an acquired taste. But if you work on it a bit, you'll be rewarded :-) The Oud is really well balanced by the other woods for my nose and combines with the musk in an intense, not at all off-putting way. But like I said, I haven't met anyone who would spontaneously like it either.
Working on myself doesn't help me at all. For me, most cheese tastes like it smells, which is like spoiled milk. With oud, it's partly the case that I can almost taste the smell in my mouth.
You're right about the glue, @Ergoproxy.
During my first test, it smelled a bit like industrial glue/leather factory.
Now I just call it sandalwood glue. 😊
I quite like it.
