A volcano in a bottle?

"Grey Ash by Aurora Scents is an olfactory homage to the untamed beauty of volcanic landscapes. At its core, this fragrance is inspired by the transformative dance of volcanic ash."

This is what it says on the manufacturer's website and as someone who was fascinated by geology as a child, this description naturally appealed to me.
I "sneaked" around the fragrance for months, memorized it and deleted it again, only to memorize it again - unfortunately, there were no reviews or statements so far and I couldn't find anything on the rest of the www either. Now curiosity and the allure of the unknown won the upper hand, even though the price of just under €40 is above my self-imposed limit for blind purchases.

The bottle has a minimalist design and is quite heavy, the lid seems to be made of black lacquered wood or at least imitated to look very authentic. The brand logo is engraved in the lid.

The fragrance itself is fruity-spicy, slightly sweet and earthy, so it captures the intended volcano association quite well.
The top note transitions quickly into the heart note and it seems to me as if amber and incense from the base note are already playing a part. I don't notice any aquatic notes or orange blossom, and coffee and suede only minimally.

Applied at midday, the fragrance lasted on my skin well into the evening and was then still present close to the skin for a while.

I consider Grey Ash to be unisex, probably best suited for the evening or going out.
I see a certain similarity in the vibe with By the Fireplace, but a little less smoky than that one. I could imagine that fans of By the Fireplace might also like Grey Ash.

I personally really like the fragrance and the basic idea is really exciting, but I miss a bit of the "minerality", i.e. less sweetness and more tart earthiness would certainly have done well to round off the image of a volcano.
In this respect, the blind purchase was unfortunately not a success for me. But of course, my taste is not the measure of all things ;) and so I can, with a clear conscience, give Grey Ash a positive recommendation.
