Wow, girl, what got into you?, I thought as I fished the sample out of the package and read through the fragrance components before testing.
A month ago, I unfortunately broke my leg and somehow lost touch with everything (which was actually nice for a while). Therefore, I had NO idea what I had ordered in a frenzy, and the ALzD package revealed, when I finally picked it up from my package shop, a bunch of self-staged surprises. Not all of them pleasant.
Sandalwood? Iso-E-Super? Iso-E-Super is, for example, contained in Korman's "September." Giada, who sent me a sample of it, explained that "September" would smell like natural sandalwood. Good to know. I immediately and irrevocably declared sandalwood and Iso-E-Super as my personal kryptonite and knew from then on what to watch out for.
Oakmoss? That's for men.
Lavender? Nice, but for grandmas.
And lime behaves towards clove like flip-flops do to ear warmers.
So much for my categories. I'm always willing to be proven wrong, but HOW ON EARTH did I end up pinning M.O.U.S.S.E to my watchlist? But the checkmark was there, I checked it. I guess I'll never find out...
Now that you've read the title, I'll keep it short: It contradicts everything I believed, the history of mankind must be rewritten, but YUMMMMM!!!!!
Since I got to know Lutens' "Fille en aiguilles," I've been totally into ethereal conifer notes. I smell that woodiness here too. The clove scent harmonizes perfectly with it, which is also quite dominant. You really have to like clove for M.O.U.S.S.E. Besides, I smell something juicy-sweet and seductive, like red wine plums. At first, that sounds dark and heavy and Christmas-like, but it's really not. There’s no classic pyramid structure; the scent is immediately present, but it shimmers and wobbles, showing depths and heights, heaviness and lightness, the receptors dance with the mucous membrane on a forest clearing doing the foxtrot while the champagne bubbles over from the glasses. One could certainly speak of a buoyant heaviness, a paradox, it seems, but with this scent, I'm not surprised anymore. There are also heavy people who can dance wonderfully...
Whether it's the lime or the lavender or even the Iso-E-Super that causes this shimmer and my heart flutter: it's damn well done! But what I know for sure is that the aldehydes polish this olfactory spectacle to a high shine, which probably also supports the heaviness.
M.O.U.S.S.E somewhat reminds me of "Féminité du bois" by Shiseido or "L’Enfant Terrible" by Jovoy. But it behaves like confetti to Hypnotic Poison (sorry - but it's true!).
Longevity and sillage are excellent; this will be my new light cuddler for autumn and winter!
