Berlin de Vous is perhaps something like the arte channel of perfumery. A German-French collaboration, kept rather manageable and "with ambition," aimed at the "conscious," reflective clientele that appreciates sustainability, lovingly crafted items, things not known to everyone, and perhaps also things not understood by everyone.
The nose behind the only three fragrances released so far from this small manufactory, which focuses on high-quality and predominantly natural raw materials, is Marie Urban LeFebvre, who is known to us as the creative mind behind her own brand Urban Scents.
Candemir came to me by chance; it was recommended to me by the interested and holistically oriented owner of a small cosmetics and fragrance shop in Berlin-Mitte. When I tested Candemir, I strangely thought directly of the works of Marie Urban that I know, so casual, so wearable, but also intriguingly exceptional, as it seemed to me (I admit, I was a little bit proud when I heard that she is indeed the perfumer behind Candemir).
Right off the bat: if you want to make a statement with your fragrance, this is not the right choice. Candemir is one that hugs closely and does not leave a trail. You really have to want that, especially in this price segment. I can definitely understand if someone does not want that. Fortunately, I personally usually do want that, or rather: it fits into my olfactory preference.
It starts off briefly crystalline-citrusy-orange and reminds me of those packets of grape sugar for sucking. So already sweetish, but also a bit scratchy, citrus-minty-sharp-spicy. It follows a seamless, smooth glide into increasing sweetness and warmth, without force or intrusiveness, very fine, as if you were putting on a thin cashmere jacket over a delicate silk shirt. To later slip into a soft, light, but cozy cashmere coat. Perhaps I catch a whiff of diffuse wood along the way, but actually, I can't clearly identify anything. The ingredients have completely blended into a harmonious unity.
Candemir indeed feels natural to me. Warm, sweetish, and slightly powdery, perhaps even fur-like, after initially seeming a bit cool and distant. Nevertheless, it is not a wintry snuggler. Its aura has something cheerful, light, milky, almost summery about it. And *I* wear the fragrance, not it wears me.
There are certainly fragrances - even from my own collection - that get my blood rushing more. But right now, the world is already loud enough for me, so this calm, cleverly simple, unpretentious, yet not boring fragrance means a comforting, stylish coat for me in almost all situations of life.
That sounds wonderful, and I'm currently into more subtle scents (among other reasons you mentioned). Although I'm afraid it might be out of my budget, I'll add it to my wishlist-who knows…😉 Thanks for the great comment! 👍🏆
Another wonderful review from you (which I just came across now 🙈). Your words almost always make me add the featured fragrances to my wishlist. That almost happened here too, but then I saw coriander in the notes, which is often tricky for me. Still, the joy of reading remains.
It can't be that I just decluttered my ML and now I have to read THIS *hmpf* and possibly even test it?! ;-) A great headline that hooked me right away. And a really wonderful review that personally resonated with me. The madness at the door that can't be stopped... yes, it bothers me and often keeps me up at night. That's why I'm all about subtlety and gentle soul-soothers...
You had me with the headline, hehe ;-) Brava for recognizing the perfumer's signature - it clearly suits you! I really like calm, naturally scented fragrances - I usually run away from 'performance monsters'... I need to test this.
What a great description that takes me on your thought journey about the scent in so many ways. Definitely going on my wishlist, and thank you so much!!
Oh, a Gaukeleya comment. It's always a treat.
On top of that, a lovely fragrance description and great info.
But the good lady Marie Urban Le Febvre still needs to step it up a bit to convince me. The part about "not everyone knows it, not everyone likes it, and not everyone understands it" fits quite well.
I completely agree with the last paragraph. I'm definitely not in the mood for loud scents; subtle, comforting fragrances are what I'm after.
Thank you so much, dear S., that makes me really happy :-) You're right, you did mention that Marie's handwriting isn't really your thing :-) Although she doesn't compose any loudmouths (well said ;-D), at least I don't know of any.
Oh how nice, I was hoping for a few words about Candemir since it found its way into your collection :) Now there's a detailed review, which makes me very happy! It also sounds like a Gundel scent and overall lovely.
A very nice headline :) Sounds like a really fine fragrance. Marie Urban Le Febvre always creates great scents with her own unique style. The fact that you suspected hers makes the fragrance even more special for you. Really enjoyed reading this.
Thank you :-) Yes, I allowed myself that little wordplay ^^ You can often smell this relaxed nonchalance in Marie's fragrances without it being banal. This one is no exception.
That sounds great... I feel the same way about my Zarko 234 38. So unremarkable, sometimes just a veil, but sooo beautiful and unique. I love it when a fragrance is close to the skin. In a world of overly sweet bombers and oversprayers :-)
Thanks for reading! :-)

Nice comment!
