High on spirit but heavy on the hand.
This is a sample that was passed on to me from a friend that told me she didn't care for it but thought I might like it. I set it aside for a few months, and decided to give it a shot.
For me, this is a scent that should have been left on the cutting room floor. It's very disjointed, has poor longevity and projection considering the notes, and truly just isn't something that's fully wearable.
Birch is always a tough note to work with; balanced it adds a leathery depth, but when it's not it turns into smoked meat. Unfortunately, on me this ends up smelling like smoked meat rubbed with dark chocolate and orange rind. Maybe an extra smoky goat molé; that's a delicious thing to smell cooking and to eat, but I definitely don't want to smell like this.
Luckily the strongest the fragrance is happens to be in the first 5-10 minutes of wearing.
This reminds me a bit of Corpse Reviver and UmmaGumma from Fzotic, but Fzotic is far more refined, skillfully blended, and gorgeous to wear (I'm a big fan of Corpse Reviver, and strange that both perfumers are named Bruno).
All that being said, if Bruno continues to refine his craft, I can see really interesting and beautiful fragrances in his future. Until then, I hope he makes more discerning choices in the future.
