I did a side-by-side comparison between Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Oud Satin Mood Extrait and Bujairami’s Deep Night, which is known as a dupe inspired by the former.
To ensure a fair testing environment, I prepped both wrists with a thin layer of Vaseline before spraying, aiming to get an accurate read on projection and longevity.
Opening
Right out of the bottle, the resemblance is striking. At first sniff, the overall profile is so similar that it’s almost tricky to tell which wrist holds the original and which holds Deep Night.
They aren't absolute 1:1 clones, but when smelled side-by-side, it’s crystal clear that both fragrances are heading in the exact same direction.
Mid Development (5 – 30 Minutes)
Around the 5-minute mark, subtle divergences start to emerge.
Oud Satin Mood Extrait reveals a bolder, coarser woody character. There’s a distinct dry, smoky, almost slightly burnt-wood nuance in the background.
Deep Night, on the other hand, carries a similar woody backbone but feels noticeably smoother and more refined. It comes across slightly sweeter and rounded, though not enough to make them feel like entirely different scents.
Both fragrances center around a dominant woody core complemented by subtle spicy facets. Rose is definitely present, but it acts as a supporting element beneath the powerful woods.
As time goes on, Satin Mood Extrait develops a faint medicinal, sterile nuance reminiscent of a hospital or disinfectant. In contrast, Deep Night skips this harsh medicinal edge entirely, blending its notes into a softer, more approachable composition.
While Oud Satin Mood Extrait easily wins in terms of raw projection and potency, Deep Night delivers a smoother, more comfortable texture.
By the 30-minute mark, the two settle back into a very similar aura. The harsh, burnt wood in Satin Mood Extrait begins to calm down, giving way to a subtle, slightly fresh brightness. Deep Night stays smooth and well-behaved, though its projection begins to feel a bit quieter compared to the Extrait.
Interestingly, as it develops further, Deep Night introduces a nutty, savory twist that adds a unique layer to its character. Satin Mood Extrait continues to lean into its smoky, slightly burnt-wood vibe.
Dry-Down & Base
The base transition is where things get fascinating again.
As time passes, the heavy woodiness of Satin Mood Extrait softens, bringing the two scents much closer together than in the mid-stage. The rough edges of the Extrait fade, narrowing the gap significantly.
Still, a subtle difference remains: Satin Mood Extrait maintains a slightly stronger woody presence right until the end.
In the final dry-down, both fragrances reveal delicate floral hints and a fresh, subtle fruitiness. Accompanying these are soft nutty undertones that ultimately meld into a smooth, comforting musky finish.
Summary & Verdict
The most impressive takeaway is how faithfully both share the exact same DNA. While almost indistinguishable at first spray, they part ways slightly in texture and intensity through the mid-notes before coming back together in the base.
Oud Satin Mood Extrait: Stronger projection, drier/smokier burnt-wood texture, with a subtle medicinal edge.
Bujairami Deep Night: Softer projection, smoother and polished woods, slightly sweeter with a nice nutty warmth.
Rather than being a 100% exact replica, Deep Night feels like a softened, user-friendly interpretation of the original DNA. If you find the raw, smoky, and medicinal intensity of Oud Satin Mood Extrait a bit overwhelming, Deep Night offers a remarkably close alternative that is easier and more comfortable to wear.
