Leathery smoky sweet tobacco-coffee

About 2 years ago, I ordered a sample pack from Ensar Oud with various Oud oils. I was allowed to choose a perfume from Ensar as a bonus. I decided on "Thai Tabac" because I was intrigued by the tobacco note.

A warning right away: "Thai Tabac" is very strong. One or two dabs are enough to smell it all day long. This is because it consists of pure essential oils that are not diluted with alcohol.

The scent starts off very smoky and leathery. Then the name-giving, slightly sweet tobacco note emerges with a hint of coffee - which is probably what is meant by the toffee. I can also at least faintly perceive hay, vetiver, vanilla, and incense. To me, it smells like sitting in hay, drinking a sweet coffee, and smoking with leather gloves on.

What I really like is that Ensar, as he writes, deliberately refrained from using citrus notes as a top note. This sets "Thai Tabac" apart from the many identical and, for me, now boring top notes of mass-market perfumes.

Overall, I find "Thai Tabac" very beautiful. And on that note, I allow myself a little side jab. Anyone who, as I recently experienced in a discussion, claims that pure natural perfumes are "outdated" and "at best historically interesting," should take a moment to appreciate "Thai Tabac." And it is not the only one of its kind. There are also many artistic top fragrances in the realm of natural perfumes and attars.

Allow me a word to classify the scent as a purely masculine fragrance. I make no secret of the fact that I consider these gender assignments to be outdated stereotypes. Therefore, let it be said to the ladies: You can wear this too. ;-)

Finally, a note on the description of the scent: What is stated under "Interesting Facts" is not correct. It suggests that it is a pure Oud oil. That is not the case. While Ensar Oud primarily offers pure Oud oils, "Thai Tabac" is a so-called attar, meaning a blend of various essential oils - mind you, without synthetic fragrance substances. Oud is therefore at most a component. Ensar now has several such attars in their range.
