I found the price here, at least what I paid (almost 15/ml), to be very fair. But I really don鈥檛 want to know what you have to pay for the PP nowadays.
I still think the musk-oud explosion in the PP is great.
I'm sure the transition from the base to higher notes has been implemented in the EdP in a groundbreaking, almost liberating, ethereal way.
A comparison of the EdP (new/old) with the matured PP would indeed be interesting.
Yes, the PP is also objectively (if you can even say that about fragrances...) the better scent, as it's more complex and clearly more intertwined. Personally, I just prefer the edge here a bit more. More cellar, less light :D Such a comparison would definitely be very interesting. I can imagine that the PP gets better over time due to the significant musk content. It always matures beautifully.
Yes, the discrepancy between the PP and EdP has been noticed by others as well. I'm just not sure if this applies to all batches. I might just be convincing myself of it (!?), but I'm pretty sure that the originally released EdP was quite a spicy powerhouse. In contrast, the EdPs from NfU (Gifts) that were available last year during the discount circus at Ensar are definitely softer. It could also be that over time, we've just become a bit more "chill" and nothing really *blows us away* anymore 馃槄.
My bottle is definitely one of the EdPs from last year; unfortunately, I don't know the old batches since I only smelled the PP once. If this one was significantly spicier than this bottle, that would be really interesting. I already found this one to be one of the spiciest scents I've ever smelled from Ensar.
*It starts off extremely spicy for me with tobacco, rosemary, pepper, and a hefty dose of musk. These notes remain throughout the fragrance and define it. The beeswax tries to bring in some sweetness as it develops, but it fails against the strong spiciness. I do get a bit of floral in the middle, especially lotus, before the scent shifts more towards the woody-leathery oud and creamy musk. For me, this is one of the very few, maybe the only, Ensar where I prefer the EdP over the PP. That was nice too, but much more balanced, woody-resinous, and sweeter. Here you get a powerful punch of spices and tobacco that give the fragrance so much character.
I liked it... except for the price.
One really feels the cost. Beautifully described! 馃憤
