What There Is...

"The scent of well-groomed masculinity" and "A breeze of vastness and sea" is written on the packaging of this sample. This discovery was part of an extensive collection of samples and miniatures that I recently won on eBay. There was some pretty obscure stuff in there, like this fragrance.

The presentation and the scent itself suggest that it originates from the 60s/70s, a time when there were perhaps ten fragrances "for men" readily available in Germany, when there was no EdT, only EdC, but the inevitable pre-shave was a must. A gem for a perfume historian. My grandfather didn't smell like this, but he could have.

A child of its time, and the grandfather comparison is by no means meant to be disrespectful. On the contrary. This is a delightful little treasure from long-gone days, when fragrances were still natural and down-to-earth. "Herb-masculine" was indeed the trend back then, almost universally the rule.

I dare to assume that the miniature has not gone off yet. The stuff from back then endures unscathed for many decades. A spicy and honest skin; refreshing, amidst all the hundreds of fragrances I have tested in recent months, to once again sniff something so unpretentious.

Today at the flea market, I found a gift set with aftershave and deodorant-I'm excited! I also found 2 vintage Mennen, 2 Irish Moss, Pitralon Musk, and Avon Paros aftershave! :D
