Background: Parfumos sends me samples, I test them without any prior knowledge of the fragrances and describe my reaction - that of an untrained dilettante.
Rarely have I felt so mocked by a scent as I do with this one. Hardly have the fragrance notes appeared, they seem to vanish again. Sweet-spicy resin? No!? Yes! Ooah! Oud? No. Yes!
I start to sound like the bumbling Louis de Funès on his hunt for the eloquent arch-villain and gentleman Fantomas. Then I think I catch oud and sweet rose. Sniff again: gone. Then later something balsamic - woody, hardly think about it... Spices are back. What is this? My expression is slowly but surely transforming into a sort of facial carnival, as if a leveling roller had rolled over my big uncle. My nose probably needs to go for an inspection.
"Everything okay?" my daughter asks, and when I hold out the scent strip to her, I only get a shrug combined with the question of whether I had even sprayed anything on it. Bam, soapy resins and patchouli are quietly back. Even something floral seems to be on board. It vaguely reminds me of the silence you miss because you're frantically chasing a mirage. Smells a bit like the Thar Desert in India, bordering Pakistan. Dry, spicy, quirky!
