Cocoa softens things, pushing the composition almost into gourmand territory. It pulls itself back just in time, though. Later, there’s a fairly abrupt break. The scent becomes “denser,” with leathery, earthy oud at its core-smoky, woody, and relatively subtly animalic (the musk is there, but somewhat pushed into the background), along with burnt tobacco (tobacco ash) and a light “base spiciness.” Over time, it becomes sweeter, with a fairly pronounced “saffron leather” note. Gris doesn’t play a major role, at least on my skin.
Overall, a very solid debut, even if there’s still room for improvement. Well made in terms of quality; only the transitions feel a little rough to me. The somewhat funky opening might put some people off, and you definitely need to be able to handle saffron. Longevity and sillage are okay (though that could also be due to the current heat).
