A masterpiece in attar composition
JS Signature immediately opens beautifully. There is no waiting to get past any funky top notes or anything like that. It goes straight into a stunning blend of cambodi oud, tonkin musk and taif rose. There are 3 different cambodi oils that were macerated with tonkin musk for 19 months, and it shows. There is an incredible marriage between the oud and the musk, that feels as if the musk characteristics are a part of the cambodi oud, and not two distinct ingredients. But what does it actually smell like?
In the immediate opening, I get sweetness, fruits like plums and red berries, and also a slight resinous vibe, maybe soft tobacco or leather, however it is quite faint and blends beautifully with the other opening notes. The musk adds a soft skin quality that blends perfectly with the leathery qualities of the oud. I am also getting a slight citrus vibe but more so like limoncello, as it has a sweet candied quality. It is very faint but I can definitely detect it. I am also getting a wonderful wisp of rose petals that plays wonderfully with the fruits and lemon. All of these playful top notes I am detecting need to be searched for. I am sniffing my skin deeply, and really focusing on detecting notes. If I just pass my arm quickly by my nose, the fragrance is more so a cohesive, pleasant musky, rose oud perfume, that any connoisseur would enjoy smelling.
After the attar has had some time to dry and develop on my skin, there aren't any drastic changes or shifts in the fragrance. JS signature continues on the same path as the opening, the oud is still offering wonderful notes of berries and plums, however the leather note has softened quite a bit, and now feels a bit more like a soft suede. The musk is still cohesive with the oud, offering a tame animalic skin boost. It is in this stage of the fragrance where the taif rose becomes a bit more prominent. Whereas in the opening I was getting rose petals, and lemon citrus, I am now getting a bit more overall floral rose vibe. It is such a beautiful soft jammy rose, that blends perfectly with the oud and musk.
JS Signature has great staying power on my skin, and is also performing admirably for an attar. I applied the oil on my wrists and forearms, and after an hour I am getting constant whiffs as I work from my desk with my nose about 2 feet away. The dry down of JS signature continues to maintain the core elements of the perfume, Oud, Musk, Rose. There are still some sweet, red qualities from the oud, the musk is still offering it’s primal animalic skin touch, and the rose is still lively, and pink. I am also getting a bit of a soft creaminess in the drydown that is mellow and meditative.
JS Signature is one of the most beautiful, easiest to wear attars I have ever experienced. There is absolutely nothing off putting, challenging or out of place in the composition.I can tell that this was composed thoughtfully, and the 19 month maceration time has paid off. The opening is vibrant and uplifting, slowly evolving into a regal and meditative perfume.
