It's truly amazing how scents can burn themselves into people's memories. And when I think back to my childhood, I associate my parents with a specific perfume each. For example, my mother had Joop! Femme as her favorite scent. She still has it today. It's so heavy, full of vanilla & musk, that one can't possibly forget it when it clings to a person for a lifetime!
My father, on the other hand, was accompanied by a fragrance that always reminded me of the smell of candles. Male candles, of course. I remember exactly, because on top of the dresser stood a striking, orange bottle...120ml. With a silver ring as a cap. Lagerfeld Classic didn't smell particularly good to me; in fact, I even felt it stank a bit. However, he was my father, and I have always been a daddy's girl. So he smelled to me...like a grown man, a role model, a companion, a man of the world.
Over the course of my fragrance journey, my father received several perfumes from me that he also liked very much. They included Fahrenheit by Dior, Lagerfeld Photo, Joop! Homme, etc. But recently, when I happened to smell Classic by Mr. Lagerfeld again, I inevitably had my dad in mind. I had to pause for a moment and sort my impressions. It's strange, but since that moment, I know what the next perfume will be that he gets from me. A 120ml bottle of Lagerfeld's Classic, which will once again shine in bright orange on top of the dresser.
