Yes, the opening is wonderful! The scent fits perfectly with the house's line-it's actually intriguing and unique, but also a bit disturbingly synthetic, so despite its great potential and fine notes, it never becomes "a soul scent."
Your description after the lovely opening makes me think that my soul wouldn't leap here either. Akigalawood is such a love-hate for me, and sweet tonka vanilla usually is too.
The peppery blood orange, mandarin, and grapefruit feel like a wake-up call and are super refreshing and invigorating. Gradually, dry cocoa, bright (artificial) woods, and sweet tonka bean come in, which unfortunately somewhat suppresses the initial fruitiness, but thankfully doesn't completely eliminate it. Conclusion: Happy to test, but probably won't wear it. Special thanks to @Pollita.
A good start, but then it turns into a boring base again.
