Another Mint-Geranium Marriage

I thought immediately of Frédéric Malle GERANIUM POUR MONSIEUR upon donning Parfums de Nicolai L'EAU CHIC. It's not often that mint and geranium are married in this way.

Unfortunately, L'EAU CHIC seems in some ways like a mediocre remake of an excellent film. Why bother? It is less rich and substantial and opens with a decidedly body spray or deodorant-like vibe. Too much mint for my tastes and not enough depth. This just does not strike me as a perfume.

In the perfumer's defense, this creation appears to be intended as a light cologne for summertime. So, regarded in that way, I can say that it is a success, for the stated objective (on the card accompanying my sample) is met. I suspect that I might have liked L'EAU CHIC more had I no knowledge of the Malle. But I do, so I don't. Désolée.

Meaningless little water

What drove me to order a sample of this fragrance? I suspect it was simply the white musk, which I greatly appreciate because it usually has such a calming, yet never boring effect. And since the Eau is also called "Chic," nothing could possibly go wrong?!

Well, so much for the difference between theory and practice. In the latter, this fragrance turns out to be so boring and unremarkable that I am almost at a loss for words.

The beginning is still quite nice; lavender and mint provide a fresh-harmonious entry into the scent. However, that is over in a flash, and traces of iris and chamomile follow. And then? Nothing! I can't even begin to sense sandalwood or musk.

The scent is as clear as water and smells like much more than that, at least for me. And chic? I am indeed a proponent of purism (at least when it comes to furniture and clothes), but how could a hint of nothing in fragrance come across as chic? But whatever. I much prefer my Goutal nomad! It may not be overly lush, but it is soooo beautiful!!

This water and I will definitely not become friends!

Hmmm really chic

Without knowing what kind of fragrance it is and what notes it contains, I approached the sample, as I was only pointed to this scent thanks to a nice tip.

My first thought was, creamy orange? Sweet, slightly milky, with something indefinably sweet and spicy... Even though the word sweet comes up often, it is neither sticky nor intrusive, rather cozy, snuggly, and warm.

The lavender gently wafts into my nose again and again; although I don't like it, it is wonderful here.

Soft spicy, slightly woody notes dominate this lightly floral fragrance in an incredibly flattering way, which is absolutely rounded and beautiful. I find it really "cuddly," ...and I think it leans more towards femininity. I don't think I would like it as much on a man; the slight sweetness makes the fragrance feel more feminine to me.
