A Longevity Monster Without Innovation?
You can think what you want of Mr. Gebauer, and this does not play a role in my review. However, it must be said that Mr. Gebauer has created great fragrances with his first two works, which are unique to me and have above-average longevity and sillage. Now to the third work, the Arabian King. The fragrance comes in a beautiful golden bottle in the usual shape and looks very high-quality. Knowing Mr. Gebauer's preference for oriental scents, certain expectations were set for this fragrance, which unfortunately could not be fully met. I was expecting a strong oud scent, but the oud is unfortunately only found in the top note with a decent portion of saffron, accompanied by a slightly fresh note. The fragrance feels heavy from the start and has the potential to cause headaches for those nearby. As it develops further, the fragrance unfortunately offers hardly any innovative scent developments. It is rather a classic rose-oud scent that evolves into a woody sweet direction. The fragrance fills entire rooms and is still noticeable 10 hours after spraying. Generally, I like the scent even though it often brings me negative comments. The rose-oud combination is not innovative but is executed quite elegantly. For those who want to bring out the woody base note more, I recommend layering it with Roberto Ugulini Oxford at this point. I do not regret the purchase at all, even though there are more affordable alternatives in the rose-oud segment. Ultimately, my expectations for the fragrance were very high, and Mr. Gebauer has created a typical representative of an oriental fragrance. I still recommend sampling it beforehand and not making a blind buy.
