Charmed by the Carpenters workshop
With wearing this perfume I was reminded of an important lesson, and that is to not make your assumptions the first time you wear a fragrance. It is important to give yourself time to really get to know a perfume, wearing it once, is oftentimes not enough to formulate a true decisive opinion. You need time to really understand its nuisance and character.
My first experience with Pinocchio was that it had an abrasive screechy quality ,which I did not enjoy. The woodiness of the sandalwood and palm santo was acrid and the scent story oh so linear.
However, with time to macerate and on further examination, this perfume has transformed into something joyous, naive and comforting.
The scent journey is reminiscent of the first beginnings of Pinocchio's story, before his exploration of the world and the darker aspects of mankind’s nature.
By no means is this perfume something overly constructed or complex, but, somehow I prefer it. The perfumer has managed to make this feel guileless and which feels appropriate and encapusulates the nativité of childhood and new beginnings.
The combination of the trio of woods; Cedar, Sandalwood and Paolo Santo, rather than feeling weighty, as woody notes can, it feels dry and vigorous, evoking the image of a busy carpenters workshop.
As the initial notes dry down, the presence of a translucent, floral peach accord is revealed, which airily continues to linger with you throughout the day.
Overall I found Pinocchio very agreeable and a pleasure to wear.
The combination of dry woody notes and light fruity florals was comforting, intimate and joyous. The sillage was almost intimate on the dry but with a lasting power of a good 8-9 hours.
Once this becomes available to purchase in the UK, I will consider adding this to my collection. I will also try to obtain more samples from the collection to try next on my list is Jungle Book.
What has everyone else’s experience with this perfume been, did you enjoy wearing it as much as I have?
