Sweet, boozy, spicy, sharp---rich, fun, balanced. A nice "butter rum meets pimiento tobacco."

This my first of the latest Navitus Parfums release, Raised Spirits, curated by none other than Steven Gavrielatos, and as the lovely double entre named suggests, it’s an upliftingly boozy creation, a sweet and spicy semi-gourmand experience of rum, butter, caramel, and brown sugar crossed with tobacco, pimento, and woods. The pimento and tobacco combination provides a sharp/spicy quality that remains even into the dry down, so I wouldn’t say there’s much evolution, the balance being maintained between the boozy/sweet and spicy/sharp hours into wearing. In that respect, while it is gourmand-leaning, it is certainly not over-the-top sweet, and I think that balance makes it a bit more mass-appealing but still nuanced. There are many other sweet, perhaps sweeter, options in the Navitus catalogue, also, for those that might find Raised Spirits to be a little too spicy.

Raised Spirits shares the same great pricing of more recent entries, $145 for 100ml, often with discounts available, and sold for now just through the house website, though I expect it will be available through most retailers.

Overall, I love the fragrance and really like what has been done here, especially with the buttery rum aspect contra the tobacco and pimiento.
