La vie en rose
From the visual ads of this perfume you can expect dark roses on a dark night but instead of this darkness you will get pink. Pink from a beautiful bunch of roses with lipstick loaded violets on a bed of pink and black pepper. The powdery notes from mimosa and the musky vanilla drydown makes Epine mortelle easy to like.
In fact vanilla appears early after the first half an hour and hangs on until the end. Epine mortelle is a rose scent, powdery and sweet with an echo from YSL’s Paris and Lipstick Rose. It has a gourmand vibe but it not so girly in spite of pink.
The longevity is very good and has huge silage on my skin, I will definitely look forward to a second encounter with Epine Mortelle which seems to have no “epines” and is not deadly at all.

Should I really go for it or should I leave it? Maybe!
This song lyric by Fettes Brot has been stuck in my head ever since I received a sample of "Épine Mortelle" and tested it extensively. "Should I really buy it or should I leave it?" A very clear maybe regarding my purchasing decision.

The name "Deadly Thorns" suggests to me that this is a fragrance for a femme fatale, a dark, dangerous perfume aura in the night. Not at all. This scent is even wearable for young girls during the bright sunshine of the day.

It opens with a pleasant fresh, slightly cool pepper blend that unfortunately dissipates all too quickly. After that, I feel a slight burning sensation in my nose. I'm looking forward to new, now fiery-peppery notes. Hardly discovered, these blend in a well-balanced way with a gentle, softly powdery rose. The violet nods the scent off in a girlish manner. Sorry guys, this is a women's fragrance and unfortunately only wearable for you in the first few minutes. Now I'm accompanied by a gentle, unobtrusive floral scent. Nothing spectacular, skin-close sillage. Anise and angelica unfortunately do not show up at all. I spray multiple times because I find the transition from peppercorns (which are supposed to symbolize the deadly thorns) to the roses very beautiful. After that, the rose notes bore me in their simplicity with the delicate violet. No comparison to Lutens' Pepper Rose or my beloved rose favorite "Une Rose".

Many hours later, "Épine Mortelle" fades out with a lot of blackcurrants and musk, reminding me of blackcurrant candy from the pharmacy. I actually like that.

And again I'm singing: "Should I really go for it or should I leave it? Maybe!"

Update - After I wrote the comment, a day later the "maybe" has turned into a clear "no", the fragrance will not be joining my collection. It would, as most have written to me, only stand decoratively on the shelf and probably be sprayed once or twice before it goes to the souk.

Summer on the edge. A bit too green and a bit too heavy. Smells like a home I've never had.

WL! A pepper-rose-violet-Angelica-and more violet scent. Unique and playful. Nutmeg makes it interesting. I can't smell the rest.

At first definitely cucumber, reminiscent of a thick, dense green mass, both special and exhausting at the same time, it never finds peace throughout.

Phew, for me it's just a scratchy toilet duck. Quickly washed off.

Great spicy green opening, wild floral development, then fruity and candy-like, ending for me in a cookie-like shower gel sweetness, what a pity.

Citrusy sweet start, is aquatic and spicy. The scent becomes rather unpleasant over time, smells cheap, and clogs the nose.

The peppery opening blends beautifully with the rose, and in the musky base, it reminds me of the Comète
