Yesterday, after work, I opened my mailbox. Inside was a black padded envelope that already smelled surprisingly delicious. I sneaked up the stairs, repeatedly sniffing the envelope. In the hallway of my apartment, I tore open the envelope; it could only be my Pernoire Discovery Set.
Unfortunately, I had to find out that one sample was not completely filled. It seems that during shipping, the sprayer of the Amoral sample had been activated a time or two… Now I knew why the envelope smelled so exceptionally good!
In my typically German manner, I then wrote a short email to the provided email address of Pernoire. In it, I pointed out the missing packaging so that future interested parties could also enjoy complete samples. A mere 2 minutes after sending the email, my phone rang, a number from Switzerland. Pernoire on the line, a customer service that is impressive! They wanted to send me another Discovery Set right away, a shortcoming they did not want to accept! But that wasn’t necessary at all. I was fascinated by the scent, which I was already trying to convey over the phone. I was astonished, a wonderfully scented envelope and a direct response with a friendly and accommodating conversation. Since that is not a given, I had to mention it positively!
Now to the scent, albeit involuntarily tested first.
I had already had it in my nose yesterday, so I decided this morning to use the Amoral sample and let it accompany me throughout the day. It seemed to cling to me since the day before; the scent reminded me of something I couldn’t quite grasp yet.
The scent starts off very spicy, with a certain creaminess. The cinnamon and cardamom are clearly noticeable. Coupled with a slightly alcoholic, by no means unpleasant note. I would almost say that at first, it reminded me a bit of Alexandria II, which comes across as quite more alcoholic in the opening. Amoral is simply a bit rounder here, perhaps even a little fresher. As it develops further, the scent becomes smokier, a bit darker and drier.
During my lunch break, I closed my eyes and sought a little escape from the stressful morning at work. Suddenly, I knew what the scent reminded me of.
Mentally, I was visiting my father during the colder and drearier season. We were comfortably drinking coffee in the kitchen. After a while, my father went to his porch. He began to clean his pipe and stuffed it with the tobacco I had given him for his birthday. I had no idea how pipe tobacco differed. When buying, I went to my favorite delicatessen shop and let myself be guided by the few scents that wafted from the tin cans. He lit the pipe with the front door open and took a few puffs of his treat. The sweet scent of plum mixed with some spices slowly crept into the kitchen and piqued my curiosity. Is that the tobacco I recently gave him?! I grabbed my coffee cup and joined him with the last sip…
As suddenly my phone started ringing, I knew that the break was already over. In my daydreaming, I had forgotten an appointment.
So I had no choice... It was time to return to the regular workday. The short vacation during the break was now over.
