Skin caresser. Soul pamperer. Compliment catcher.
There isn't much that can still positively surprise an "old hand" in the world of fragrances. So it is all the more delightful when it does happen, as with Rhizome 05.
Actually, I was in the mood for a fig scent during a last cozy stroll through the city on Christmas morning. Since, as a perfume enthusiast, I already know the usual fig companions, I thought to myself, "Why not get some advice?" and entered the perfumery I trust, which has a large selection of niche fragrances. However, the very friendly and knowledgeable saleswoman couldn't present anything new or remotely satisfying for me in this area.
So I switched to "Can you recommend a nice, soft oriental instead?" When there was nothing interesting among the selection she presented afterward, she finally steered towards a few unpopularity-looking bottles and placed Rhizome 05 on the table. Right away, she added, "Unfortunately, this one is currently sold out." That was clear. But I wasn't really expecting a revelation. Rhizome? Never heard of this brand before.
On the test strip, I already had a déjà vu. Creamy, slightly powdery, delicately vanillic, and also a bit ambery. And despite the creaminess, it was also a little dry. "This somehow feels familiar," I said, "where do I know this from?" "Shalimar," the saleswoman replied, "but in a modern version."
She was 100% right. The reason I didn't connect the dots right away was probably because the slightly biting opening of the original is simply missing.
Since I love Shalimar, of course, I had to try it on my skin. The similarity is unmistakable. However, the fragrance skips the top note of Shalimar and goes straight into the warm creaminess and amberiness typical of Shalimar. The vanilla note is delicate, fluffy, and not sweet. And it remains subtle, even though the longevity of the fragrance is very good.
Rhizome 05 is a skin caresser and soul pamperer. For the couch, but also for the office or a night out. Actually suitable for any occasion. It is a compliment catcher. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with it, yet it is special and not mainstream.
The refinement and depth of Shalimar EdP or even the Extraits are, of course, not present. There is no significant development of the fragrance. But it is really difficult to top this incredible classic. Nevertheless, Rhizome 05 does not disappoint, as it modernly interprets so many wonderful qualities of Shalimar while remaining very consistent.
It simply smells indescribably ... good.
I am curious if there will be more comments and how they will turn out. The availability doesn't seem to be very good at the moment, so it will be difficult to test or even purchase it on-site. Especially since it was already sold out in my case. I am not surprised.

As a Shalimar fan, I really like this composition.
