Momento is for me a very successful dupe of Arabians Tonka, but it appears significantly more suitable for everyday wear in direct comparison. The familiar DNA is immediately present: sweet, warm, spicy, and oriental, but implemented in a slightly more subdued and rounded way.
The fragrance starts sweet and amber-heavy with a lot of tonka, but it doesn't come across as sharp or loud like the Montale original. As it develops, Momento becomes creamier and softer, without the aggressive edge that often makes Arabians Tonka too overwhelming for me. This makes it much more comfortable to wear.
For me, Momento is a true unisex fragrance. Neither distinctly masculine nor feminine, but pleasantly balanced. The sweetness is at the forefront, but it is captured by spicy and warm notes so that the fragrance doesn’t tip over or feel overloaded.
Longevity and sillage are still good, but more controlled. It is present without being overwhelming, making it suitable for everyday wear - at least in cooler temperatures. It fits perfectly for autumn, winter, and the evening, but also works during the day when sprayed sparingly.
In summary, a more accessible, softer alternative to Arabians Tonka, with a similar effect but significantly less extremity. For me, the more pleasant choice when I like this fragrance DNA but don’t want it to be maximally loud.
