The combination of heliotrope and iris is great, but I don't really find it very Japanese. Sandalwood also plays a significant role.

If anything, the scent refers to a time when there were empresses in Japan, which was also during our Middle Ages. The whole series is based on historically significant women. And as I gather from the literature of that time, things were completely different compared to the era of the samurai. I would have liked the scent no matter what it was called.
