Tropylang Sãlum 2024

Minty-light, herb, fresh-fruity, and surprisingly a bit herbal like lemon balm due to the combination, this fragrance catches me off guard. I had expected cinnamon and mango! Moreover, "cashmere" is listed in the pyramid, which made me fear that Tropylang might annoy me from the first second with a toxic, biting, overdosed cashmeran. On the other hand, I had hoped for ylang-ylang. Ylang-ylang is my designated favorite flower. That means something for me as a flower scent enthusiast. And labdanum. I really like labdanum. Sometimes it is presented a bit old-fashioned, and I had hoped it wouldn’t be the case here. But I don’t smell any labdanum at first.

I can sense a bit of cinnamon, but only because I read it in the pyramid. I don’t recognize the mango at first; instead, there’s another fruit. Passion fruit fits better with its fresh acidity, but I wouldn’t have identified it as passion fruit without the pyramid. I would have said it smells like fresh multivitamin juice, tropical variant. And here it shows that the name is indeed programmatic and the notes are very well intertwined, as the individual fruit isn’t exactly discernible, but the mix is.

Such a tropical fruit juice is of course a bit sweet, but fortunately here it’s not malt-sweet, not grape-sugar sweet, and not honey-sweet either, but simply tropical-fruity sweet.
The fruit juice with a bit of lemon balm and minimal cinnamon puts me in a wonderfully good mood, and I now hope even more fervently that no overdosed cashmeran will emerge in the course.
Fortunately, that doesn’t happen; instead, Tropylang slowly and gently begins to transform towards flowers. Something comes in that I would best describe as peony with a slightly herbaceous undertone, like from a composite flower. The fragrance maintains a balance throughout the entire heart note phase between fruity and floral elements, between grace and herbaceousness, between sweetness and gradually less sweetness, so it remains friendly and interesting.
Later on, labdanum joins in. It is wonderfully integrated into the composition and gives the now increasingly less sweet, but more floral-herbaceous development a soft, slightly resinous wax note.

At the base, I only smell a hint of fruit, but a beautifully dreamy mélange of the remnants of the other notes and ylang-ylang in warm, soft wax.

Until the end, no cashmeran annoys my nose. Right at the very end, I can sense a tiny bit of it, but for me, it is still pleasantly dosed here.

Tropylang is finally a fragrance that I wholeheartedly appreciate all the way to the base! It feels natural to me throughout the entire progression. It has everything my heart desires: It is fresh and bright and cheerful at the beginning, it is modern, it is floral, it has that dreamy wax note that I love so much, and it has a lively progression from sweet to less sweet; it becomes warm without being cloying or stuffy. Despite the many facets and the changeable progression, it is seamless.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer’s sample from the travel package must continue to wander.
That’s why it goes straight onto my wish list.
