fields of gold, shaded
intensely green snapped stems & almost peppery, earthy opening of hyacinth & galbanum. narcissus absolute emerges & gives an oily and animalic breath while jonquil provides a more powdery, golden floral counterpart. together this duet creates the scene in my mind of an open field of bright, sunshine-yellow flowers & cattle grazing nearby.
ultimately the narcissus wins a short battle, but not the war. it links itself to the leather & oakmoss, forming a bitter, green, & waxy leather. i feel something minty & herbal at points, but it's volatile, elusive. i imagine clothing stained green with crushed grass - a cigarette being flicked, the ash drifting through the air - an old leather jacket you laid down to sit on - but all of this is buffed so cleanly that the sharp & acrid nature of those things is rendered smooth as silk instead. there is vintage sensibility here, but it doesn't feel particularly dated as the harshness is more sanded & toned down. the projection is respectable; skin-close, rather than beastly.
as it sits, this impression softens further, & close to the skin i actually feel some of the jonquil emerge again, smelling almost like a bloom of orange blossom & a puff of vanilla-like, sweet pollen, but the narcissus is never far away, bolstered by a slightly smoky vetiver, casting its long shadow across the base of the composition.
