Building on my review of "Layton | Parfums de Marly," I would like to make a brief comparison of the two fragrances.
"Royal Chariot Attar | The Dua Brand / Dua Fragrances" is often referred to as "Layton on Steroids." While this statement seems fitting, I do not agree with it. The fragrance DNA of both scents is very similar; however, the DUA is complemented by a menthol note. The scent of the DUA is significantly stronger. This strength quickly overpowers everything, and there is no fine (noble) scent progression like with Layton. For me, the scent progression in the DUA hardly exists. The fragrance simply weakens very slowly. Craftsmanship-wise, I find Layton to be better.
Summary: I was more convinced by the strength of the DUA (weakness of Layton) than by the finer scent progression of Layton. The longevity of the DUA is about twice as long on my skin at 10 hours compared to Layton.
Attention, for those who do not know this: Attar is used at DUA to describe a fragrance oil concentration that is higher than the fragrance oil concentration in an Extrait de Parfum. The Attar should not be sprayed on clothing.
The menthol note was also present in the older Layton batches, so it seems that DUA is leaning towards that. Otherwise, I find both very similar; unfortunately, DUA lacks the fresh apple note in the opening, which comes through better in Layton. But at that price, it's forgivable.
