In the Middle of the Night
Dark Rebel and Tobacco Oud invite me for a late-night walk.
Just before midnight, the two lean against the brick wall and intercept me. Autumn has arrived. John gave me a leather jacket last year, which has become too fancy for him now. “It suits me better anyway.” Tom flicks his cigarillo into the puddle in front of him and links his arm with mine on the right.
John quickly picked up a pack of strong tobacco at the kiosk and paid in cash. He always pays in cash. He just tucks the hand-rolled, thick cigarette behind his ear. “I’ll smoke it in our bar soon; after midnight, smoking indoors is okay!”
He links his arm on the left. “Tonight we’re going all out, little brother.” It’s always nice when the two come to visit me again. They are now family men and a bit rounder around the waist. I, the clearly younger one, who still has a year of bookbinding training ahead of me, am slim, have no beard, and I don’t smoke tobacco, but sometimes I smoke grass with my friends. I better not tell the two about that; otherwise, I’ll get a shower of fatherly advice and slaps.
