I have been to Tunisia very often, both for work and personally. For me, this scent was initially less connected to my memories of Tunisia than Bortnikoff's "Amber Cologne," which I wrote about from Tunis in 2013, with the orange trees, jasmine sellers, and the garbage and dogs in the side streets.
But still! In the nicer streets, there are wonderful shops with sweets, including Kaak Ellouz - almond rings, which come in natural, rosewater-scented, or orange blossom water versions. And that's exactly what you can find in the base here, along with authentically spicy orange tree wood and a bit of soft sandalwood.
At first, there's a fresh, non-sticky honey scent, honey-floral Davana, and even Neroli - which is often tricky for me when it comes to 4711 - but it blends in nicely.
