Spiced wood blend, close to the body and classic...
I stumbled upon this brand quite by chance. Apparently, it was founded in the late 19th century as a candle maker, which is why its focus was on candles. The fragrances have only come in recent years with the growing industry. Comparable to more modern houses like Diptyque or Jo Malone. The fact is: Exotic Moss Eau de Parfum was a blind buy from an unknown house.
I want to start this time with the spray head, even though that is certainly one of the least important things to focus on with a fragrance. What stands out, however, is that it sprays extremely fine and feels very high quality. Nevertheless - this is why I mention it - it has the characteristic of producing an almost too fine mist, which means you have to spray very close to the body to even feel that at least 30% of the fragrance isn’t just flying around the room. So, it appears high quality at first glance, but practicality looks different.
The scent itself is honestly a hint of nothing. By no means cheap, rather very classic, business-like. You get a decent portion of cardamom paired with cinnamon and a few woods. Despite these spicy components, it maintains a bright aura, as if something fresh is included. The wood does not come across as stale or dried out; it feels freshly cut and processed. I find that good because it makes it versatile and not too heavy. The actually important point, however, is that it becomes quiet almost immediately and feels like a second skin (likely also due to the musk). High layering potential; I like to wear it indoors or combine it with fresh woody scents. But it hardly passes the outdoor test as the only perfume on the skin; it doesn’t assert itself, it’s a noble and brief thought on the linear idea of this DNA (oak moss and nutmeg also play a pleasant role in the dry down). For me, this means in numbers: almost no sillage after 30 minutes, after two hours only faintly detectable in one’s own nose, after three hours absolutely close to the body.
I fundamentally believe that the price of this fragrance doesn’t hurt. The bottle looks nice, and the scent has no hint of drugstore or lower price segment. However, I can very well imagine that this lightness and close-to-the-body experience is simply too little for many people. And yet, I recommend using it for layering, as it has, for example, enhanced my L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme Eau & Cèdre…
My first and only test revealed a dominant, green side of the fragrance. Its minimalist nature actually reminded me of the very good candles from Vila Hermanos. In further tests, I will pay more attention to the wood aspect. Thanks for the sample, dear @Tbk1998! It seems very suitable for close interactions or enclosed spaces with its discreet sillage. It definitely won't bother anyone.
I totally agree! I wore it just for myself at home today, and it was a really pleasant experience 😌
