Bits & Bobs & Pet Peeves...

Thought I would show off my latest acquisitions. Rather happy with these:

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab: The Raven - Sleek, dark, and ominous. Violet and neroli mingled with iris, white sandalwood and dark musk. Sheol - The final burst of the soul’s light and joy before passing into the depths of the earth, and into the cords of Sheol; Sheol, who is never satisfied, and who makes wide her soul to all. Vibrant gladiola, graceful stargazer lily, triumphant iris and bright heliotrope flare, and is finally made somber by heavy copal, a drop of labdanum, and tonka.

Smell Bent: Leathery - from their recent "Garage Sale". This is pure leather, dry, animalic, and smooth. I love leather but I have a feeling it is too much by itself. I layered it with Carolina Herrera's 212 VIP and the combination of the sweet rum, vanilla and leather was heavenly!

Pet Peeves: I buy quite a few things on eBay, it means I can get hold of rare and expensive items at a fraction of the cost I would normally need to pay. But I can't believe the amount of people that sell perfumes with NO LIDS! Perhaps it's the slight OCD tendency I have with my perfume obsession, but I don't understand how or why you would want to leave the lid off a perfume. It may not do anything to enhance the longevity of the perfume, but it is part of the beautiful packaging that most perfumes come in. I keep most of my boxes when practical, but I do understand why non-collectors get rid of their boxes. However, LIDS? Please tell me I'm being unreasonable and obsessive here! I've got to the point where I refuse to bid on something without a lid. It indicates that the perfume has been stored very haphazardly and may not be in the best condition. Plus if you have a dusty dirty bottle of perfume, why would you not CLEAN it before selling? What the hell is wrong with people? I have been needing to vent about these two issues for a while, I needed to get them off my chest. I feel better now...well, sort of lol!

Oh, P.S. Nice acquisition from smell bent! I have a hard time actually wearing his scents, but smelling them from the bottle or samples is entertaining to my nose.

Ha, that drives me nuts too! How did they lose the top?? I would go crazy looking for it if that happened to me.

Sometimes I think some of these bottles come from people selling a relative's collection and know nothing about the perfume other than making money off of it...I was lucky to get three Diors off of a girl who received them as a gift from her French grandmother, but my god they were GRIMY! I had fun cleaning them at least.

I meant that perhaps those bottles you've seen have been second hand testers. I've bought several second hand testers from ebay (or other such places). But sure there are these people who would loose their head if it wasn't attached to their body, not to mention their perfume bottle caps. And those kind of people I also don't understand! :-) For me also the box is important (makes it also easier to store them when you can pile them up!).

Honestly, aside from testers, the only bottles I've seen without lids originated from a circular metal can. The new owner felt they were salvageable And alapped a price point on them. If they wll smell good, you lucked out. I always notice too, that the lid-less bottles have a sketchy description usually, too. Unless they can make a comment about how the perdume smells, it's buyer beware, I'd say.

Oh yes I know that testers don't have lids but I'm referring to those bottles that individuals are selling that weren't testers. I've bought testers from online shops and that doesn't bother me so much as people just being so careless as to lose the lid. Lol, I know it shouldn't matter but it just bugs me no end! :-D xx

I believe the reason for bottles without lids is that those bottles are often testers made for perfume shops. Some online shops also sell tester bottles for "normal" customers. Bottles with no original box and lid can be bought and sold cheaper.

This is what I've understood. Please, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
