Getting creative w/ Caron

Here is a new one for me that is a real oldie - Pour un Homme de Caron

I'll say this again later but right off this scent doesn't seem masculine to me but rather more feminine. it's to lavender for that?!!

quick breakdown.
PHC - initial blast of lavender followed by vanilla powder. sits. after relaxing a bit it settles in to enjoy a nice cup of cocoa.

initial thoughts - i think this scent is fairly simple. i mean , i can pretty much sum it up with Lavender Vanilla Powder. but it does feel...not ancient but something my grandmother
would wear (and i'm 52). released in 39' it does smell like a by gone era. it could be 20's 30 maybe even 40's. no scratch that, 20s or 30s.

there is an elegance to it. classy, wealth!. it is not timeless but rather a time capsule from a few life times ago!
this scent belongs to a class i now i will coin as "Chandelier" (i know i know, why do you think i use the moniker Mr. Synesthes(ia) <- couldn't fit it all). Guerlain's Vetiver also belongs to that class (i will probably breakdown Chandelier a bit for those who don't get it right off. (it seems so obvious to me).

smells evoke deep memories (i think we all know the relationship between olfactory/hippocampus).
scents evoke deep memories even when not ours! past lives? (oh getting spooky!)
here is a little exercise in creative writing inspired by Pour un Homme de Caron...again it is ironic i don't associate this scent with masculinity but rather femininity. not sure what Caron House was thinking there?
ok here goes

I don't know where i am but this large room looks like it belongs to a mansion. the large chandelier hanging above my head confirms my suspicion. I'd ask her but i won't dare disturb her. she is older (60's?) hard to tell. she looks very good, life is treating her right. (besides she doesn't even know i am here). it is clear she is wealthy
but she is also in the public eye. wasn't she seen hanging around Bette Davis? has she been in any films? (i don't think so, i sense she is a tad reserved for that). She spends a lot of time in here doesn't she? in this room? She has a soft spot for "oldies" music so ragtime music wafts its way into the room from a large radio speakers. She is very classy but gets tired all the "affrontations" (her word not mine) that is required of her during all the socials. She would never tell them that she would rather put down the glass of wine in exchange for settling down in her favorite crystal green seat with a cup of warm cocoa. maybe tonight! but for now, it is time to "fortify oneself" for the night's event....

ok that was fun! how about the verdict!
Caron will unlikely end up in my top 10. but i think it has a permanent place in my collection. it is historically potent ("historicity" - ug i hate that word) (released 1939 and still available!!)
it is unique enough, even though it is overtly lavender. however, it does have some interesting transitions. i like that it ends up with a chocolatey cocoa quality.
on that note i must say one thing. depending on whether i am smelling it off my wrist, back of the hand or cloth it smells different. off the cloth it keeps the lavender way longer and no cocoa. I really get the cocoa off the wrist and to a lesser extent off the back of the hand. do you notice that too? do you notice that scents smell different
as i just mentioned? there really is so much to explore on each cologne/perfume.

I've never tried the OG but have tried the Parfum version. The thing that got me with it was the sweet vanilla. I don't like strong vanilla scents and the Parfum was over the top.

Hello again Smirky. I just recently acquired this one and i doubt it is the OG. would love to try it as well. regarding the sweet vanilla. i'm noticing that alot in the scents that i've recently gotten. they have a unique start but seem to finish w/ the sweet vanilla. though i wouldn't say i dislike it. it is.....boring.
