New Arrival: Nasomatto Pardon!

Welcome one and all. Hope everyone is well and their day is starting off in a good way. My day was definitely made when I got a phone notification saying I had a package that had been delivered. A little disclaimer here - I have quite a few packages arriving this week. Some great arrivals are in store and I will blog post about ALL of them here.

Pardon from the house of Nasomatto is a fragrance I had debated on buying for several years. One of the main reasons I didn't pull the trigger on it sooner is because I owned 3 fragrances from the house prior to my acquisition of Pardon. Duro, Black Afgano, and Hindu Grass are all on my shelf and each has seen some good usage over the years. I wanted to experience other scents so I kind of put Pardon on the back burner. Fast forward many years later when I went through my samples and my nose hit this scent. I told myself that the time for waiting was done. Card was swiped and the deal was done. They were generous with their samples too and even sent me 2 extra. Either that or I didn't read the description well enough and they asked me to pick 4 samples instead of 2. Whatever the case, no complaints here. I'll cover the samples much later.

Pardon is my SOTD if you haven't guessed. I showered and ensured I had no remnants of any other fragrances on me. Luckily, I wore The One by Dolce & Gabbana yesterday so it was pretty well gone and the shower definitely got rid of any possible remnants of it. The minute I smelled the atomizer, it brought me back to that sample. I put one spray on my chest and one on my hand so I could remind myself throughout the day of the awesome decision that I had made.

Definitely a patchouli based scent that, on my skin, kind of tows the line of being earthy but going the gourmand route at the same time. Some amazing florals help to uplift that patchouli and we're still in that glorious opening. I'll probably edit this entry later as I experience more of the fragrance. EDIT: Almost 5 PM now, 3 hours after my initial posting of this and it has softened quite a bit. It's almost powdery in a way and the patchouli has gone full gourmand on me. Chocolate with woods and I'm not 100% sure but I detect, very faintly might I add, oud. I don't have a lot of experience with oud but from the few times it has popped up when I smelled other samples from other houses, it's more prominent. In Pardon, it's very minor but detectable if it is indeed what I'm smelling.  We can attribute that to the other notes being in higher concentrations, the oud note just being a supportive role, or just the fact that the blend is so spot on, the creator of the fragrance believed it to be where it needs to be and to not change the final result. Interestingly enough, this fragrance reminds me of one of my favorite scents of all time - L'Instant de Guerlain Extreme. EDIT #2: It's 10 PM now and it's still projecting pretty well. I'm getting a musky, soft chocolate and I could definitely get used to smelling like that every day. I'm getting the same vibe as LIDGE but LIDGE seemed more "in your face" before softening whereas Pardon has been a very smooth fragrance from the start and has not deviated from that path. I'm pretty motivated to test Pardon & LIDGE side by side for a day now. On one hand, I kind of wish Nasomatto showed their note breakdown but it's understandable. Nasomatto, for those who aren't aware, don't post their note breakdown. It is an olfactive experience and it's up to you to figure it out which is excellent. Perfumery is art after all. We're still in the testing phase folks and I'm looking forward to it. Don't expect a full fledged review from me on this for a while but my prediction is that it isn't going to disappoint. Nasomatto doesn't miss. Everything I've smelled from them (for the most part) I own and that speaks volumes about the brand. I'm excited and can't wait to share it with you all.
