Your Perfume Hot Takes

Perfume Discussions
... My hot takes on fragrances are therefore: There are so many unpopular/unknown brands that are so much more valuable, don't judge them and also not the user if you never tried them...perfumes are a passion and when it comes to the artisan brands they are created by genuine perfumers with a strong passion for fragrancesi This I completely agree with. There are SO many possible fragrance choices...perhaps too many. I feel like I'm probably missing out on a fragrance that will blow my socks off because it's a hidden gem and there's not enough time in the world to find it. I guess that's a little FOMO. So I search sites like this and find out about fragrances that might interest me and then I see if I can get a decant. I've found some great niche fragrances that way that I would otherwise never have found. Yes, I'm guilty of jumping on the designer hype bandwagon. And I'm guilty of being influenced by middle eastern clone hype too. But 95% of the time I'm happy with what I discover. I buy a fragrance for me, because I love it, because it brings me joy and just makes me feel good. I certainly don't care if I'm complimented or not. Designers (and lately clones) have the advantage of mass advertising (and reputation to some degree). But I know there are tiny unique houses out there that have amazing fragrances--and I'm patiently continuing my search. Just because a fragrance isn't represented by a fashion icon, or isn't $500 an ounce, doesn't mean it's not a diamond in the rough. Actually part of the fun is the hunt.

Has anyone ever bought direct from Guerlain (ie: the website

... I just bought "L'Homme Idéal Cologne Forte | Guerlain" from their site (because I want it badly and it's not in stores). I'm in Los Angeles and it's already shipped. They let me choose two samples too. I have no idea what those will smell like but if all goes well with the delivery I'll order from them again. Of course only when I'm willing to pay retail. I usually try to buy from Jomashop or FragFlex. But of course new releases won't be found on discounters.

... I just ordered "L'Homme Idéal Cologne Forte | Guerlain" from the Guerlain website because it's not available in stores yet. Can't wait. I hear it's wonderful and I have almost all of their L'Homme Ideal line.

broken atomizer?

... I broke the atomizer on one of my JPG Le Males. It's not the best solution but what I did was purchased some really nice empty glass perfume bottles with excellent atomizers and a funnel from AllBottlesUSA.com, (they also sold the funnels). You can also find them on Amazon. I removed the broken atomizer and basically poured the fragrance into the new glass bottle. Ironically, the atomizer on the glass bottle is better than the original JPG. I've also done this with a middle eastern clone I bought because, no offense, the bottle was so hideous I couldn't stand to see it on my shelf. They can get pretty gaudy. So now it's in a nice frosted glass bottle with a great atomizer. Again, I know it's not the same as the OG bottle--but at least I can use the fragrances. And yes, it was very difficult to remove the atomizers. I basically destroyed it. But I was still able to pour the contents in the new bottle with the funnel. Good luck!

... Without a doubt Valentino Uomo Born in Roma Purple Melancholia. And I’m blind buying it. I love creamy coconut. It’s already available in Europe and supposedly “early 2026” in the US. Hurry up already! 💜💜💜

... This may boring to some, but something about the Valentino Uomo Born in Roma bottles really appeal to me. "Valentino Uomo Born In Roma Intense | Valentino" "Valentino Uomo Born In Roma Green Stravaganza | Valentino" "Valentino Uomo Born In Roma Coral Fantasy | Valentino" . I love the color gradation, texture and they feel so nice when I hold them too. (And of course I love the fragrances).

Do you wear fragrance to sleep? If so, which one(s)?

... I absolutely do. My deep dive into fragrance and collecting is very recent. It’s where I get to wear what I love smelling and won’t bother anyone. I live alone and so nobody can complain but me! During the day I wear less experimental scents because I work in an office. But at night in bed it’s all for me and it really brings me comfort. Also, I shower before bed most nights so I can moisturize and change the fragrance I may have worn during the day. I kind of like the dry down I get on my sheets days later too. Call me crazy. 😛

... I have extremely fond memories of Calvin by Calvin Klein in the 80’s. But I was much younger then. Perhaps it’s not as great as I remember. Haven’t smelled it since the 80’s.

Which notes do you avoid?

... I’m new to Parfumo and fragrance collecting in general. I was over at Fragrantica until yesterday I found out some disturbing news about the site that I wasn’t aware of. Let’s just say they don’t align with me politically. (And by the way, why is a fragrance website veering into politics anyway???) I usually lurk, but I found this thread and had to post. A couple years ago I bought "Aventus | Creed" and "The One for Men (Eau de Parfum) | Dolce & Gabbana". This was before my recent collecting binge which honestly has been more about retail therapy since I had to put my beautiful dog to sleep five months ago. I’m not handling it well so enter my sudden fragrance buying obsession. But that’s another story. So at the time I bought them I LOVED them. Time went by and I hadn’t worn either in a while. So now my collection begins and I revisit them. I’m shocked to learn I can no longer stand them. And why? One word: OAKMOSS! Now any fragrance that is oakmoss heavy and sometimes Vetiver heavy absolutely repel me. I even bought a bottle of essential oil to confirm it was that note. And sadly it was. So I asked Google if a person can suddenly develop an aversion to a scent that previously never bothered them, and apparently it’s possible. Now I know A LOT of men’s fragrances have oakmoss in them. Vetiver too. But sometimes they’re blended so well or are so subtle that I’m ok with it. So now I read what the notes are and get a decant just to be sure. And when I smell the very distinct note of oakmoss I have to move on. Which is a bummer because I feel like I’m missing out on some good fragrances. Thanks for reading.
