Your thoughts on layering

Perfume Discussions
... Two or three years ago, I wrote some blogs on layering experimentations on this site. While I still experiment with layers, I stopped writing because people were becoming rude, and I'm not sacrificing my mental health over it. My opinions: + Layering is always trial and error. Sometimes, a combination is great, and sometimes it's a disaster. However, with experience and knowledge, it gets easier to find solid combinations. + People are free to do whatever they want with a fragrance they own. If someone wants to layer their fragrance, go ahead. If someone doesn't, that's fine as well.

... "Compliment Puller/Compliment Magnet", or "Crowd pleaser" -- they replaced "Panty Dropper" as sales tactics. As other people said, they are useless buzzwords. "Bubble gum scent" -- not every sweet scent is reminiscent of bubble gum.

What are your favourite layering combos.

... I used to write about layering experiments as a blog on here, but stopped for various reasons. One combination I didn't write about is "Ultra Mâle | Jean Paul Gaultier" with "La Nuit de L'Homme (Eau de Toilette) | Yves Saint Laurent" The cardamom and ginger from LNDL complement the pear and cinnamon in Ultra Male. There is also a stronger burst of freshness in the opening and heart thanks to both fragrances having bergamot and lavender.

... For the affordables, it was Bentley for Men Intense . Initially, I liked it as an affordable leather scent that is a quick lesson if someone will like the note. However, I smelled better leather scents such as Fahrenheit , Tuscan Leather , Ombre Leather , etc. This made Bentley for Men Intense useless. For the mainline designers, I see the hype train trying to start on Y EDP Intense . I liked the theory of a Y EDP that muted the sweetness. However, it turned into a normal fresh scent that goes too heavy on patchouli. For niche, it's The Night . It becomes one of the best oud/rose/saffron combo available when it dries down. However, the opening is a rancid barnyard smell, and I have to wait almost two hours before getting to the good part. It's an experience, but not one worth $1000+ USD.
