Politically incorrect fragrance notes?
Tessa
|
Perfume Discussions
... Oriens, in Latin, means the place where the sun rises. Occidens, in Latin, means the place where the sun sets . In France we use the word "midi" for South. Nobody is offended. The "oriental" when referring to perfumes was meant to underline the exotic quality. I like it because it suggests the richness of a scent. Why to politicize a word used by perfumers for a century and apply "correctness" to please ? Is it correct?

Passing on the perfume passion - how young?

Education is important
...When you are a perfume lover it does not take much to "teach" the others, to explain why you love this scent and you do not like the other one. This is how it begins. I let my granddaughter- a six years old- to take a voyage through my collection. I added my explanations to each and every perfume she tested and make small decants of the ones she loved. At her age, the preferrances went towards the gourmands: Lollita Lempika, Thierry Muegler. That was a first step. I am sending her decants whenever I can and want to see how she progresses and change her tastes.

Idle chit chat: what's the weather like where you live

...Rainy summer in Michigan and after the terrible winter we had, months of temps reaching-36F, I really mean 2 months without a decent 1F, we all hoped for a warm summer. No such luck. I do not relate parfumes to weather but to my feelings, thus, I enjoy my Shalimars and Patous and Crown Perfumery ones along with Scherrers .

Is Guerlain discontinuing Shalimar Initial?
Tessa

Perfumes & Brands
...Maybe this is the explanation for the backorder list I was put on by Neiman Marcus . I had to wait three weeks to receive the notice that Shalimar Initial was shipped and meanwhile I received a notice that the perfume may not be available and if I wanted to wait.... I waited and got it. Now I think it could be discontinued.

... Pipette: Well, I am watching Spiral to keep up my French. The same episodes over and over - and over - again. This is the accent Parisien. It is French normally spoken. OFF TOPIC - Now I have discovered still another French tele series, and that is Alice Nevers - le juge est une femme Splendid. The shows go over several years. Netflix does not have it, as yet, but the show is visible on This particular episode "La petite marchande de fleurs" has to do with perfume. Crime. Disaster. But, there are no subtitles. Thank you for the link. I started this episode and intend to see the rest of the seasons. I would write in French but I do not have the accents. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v =ufdV5_NFRRs

...Dear Scarletting, Before this primer I used Camellia Oil. Besides hydrating and being full of antioxidants it forms a barrier like no other body lotion or even the argan oil. I will not purchase again the primer.

...I got the perfume "primer" and want to share with you my opinion after having used it a few times with scents which use to sink into my skin and perform a disappearance act. The lasting result is modest. I would say it extended the lasting power of the perfume by two hours. Not what I expected. However, it is good for those with fragrance sensitivity. It protects the skin against the itching but that means you have to spray the perfume exactely on the spot where the primer was applied and you have to let the primer dry for half a minute or so. What it is really great about it is the fact that it eliminates the alteration of the scent due to apocrines. There were no ingredients listed. I do have a certain degree of skin sensitivity at a few ingredients in the perfumes and the primer helped.

Regulations for perfume on airplane?

...Sorceress, do not buy perfumes on the plane. Check the duty free in the airport. Not a rich selection. Prices are high. Do not forget to ask for the reimbursement of the TVA for one or two perfumes. If you buy several, buy them at different times so that you have the TVA for two on a receipt. It is not a significant amount and sometimes it is better not to ask for the it. It is also safe to take them out of the box.

...You can take FB of perfumes on international flights. I ended up with six in my suitcase. Nobody asked me about perfumes. With you, in the handbag a rollerball or a small glass decant works. No questions asked. I am talking a recent flight, this January to and back from France.
