... Nice thread, thanks! I give my tuppence with "20Mars2022 | Rundholz Parfums" which is an extremely dark smoky intergalactic thing (well, too me). @Lempi I could finally put my nose on "Zombie for Him | Demeter Fragrance Library / The Library Of Fragrance" is Friday, and I remembered your post on it! This weird thing is really well done. I might buy it - but in what occasion could I wear it? @ScentNebula wow "Writer's Blood | Alkemia" seems to be something!

... I second on Jardins d'écrivains and Histoires de parfum. i have yet to go to Maître parfumeur et gantier. Dover street market has a lot of brands https://www.doverstreetparfums. .. but I have never been there. (L'artIsan parfumeur, Nicolaï, Diptyque have several shops in the capital, and Fragonard too. But I think from an earlier post that you know them.) Try to speak French, don't let them answer you in English!

... Hi! The Zara recommandation of @Ravona seems right! And "Versace pour Homme Dylan Blue (Eau de Toilette) | Versace" or "Versace Man Eau Fraîche (Eau de Toilette) | Versace". I'll add "Dior Homme Sport (2021) | Dior" which is citrusy-woody. Try them in shop before buying. You can find better prices online by "discounters". in Germany I guess it could be notino, deloox, easycosmetics. Have fun and a joyful summer!

... Your experience seems really awful 😢 As other says it seems that most people do recover! The olfactory bulb is one of the rare zones in your brain that produce new neurons all your life. Keep training, it's worth it! Soon you' ll get your beloved scent sensations back! Get well soon!

... Enthusiastic oversprayer here 🤝. I agree with @Lempi and @Smirky . Ask someone else if they smell something! You can also reapply may be? Moisturizer: here in Belgium I bought "Sanex" scent-free and inexpensive. I use it from times to times.

... Hi, sorry my bad for Guerlain, I thought I found it on their site but it was like a sort of "ghost" page. Chanel : https://www.chanel.com/us/frag. .. As for the Caswell Massey : i only know the cologne of "Jockey Club (Cologne) | Caswell-Massey" (which I like). The edp was a bit expensive to ask it as a gift from my sister (though she would probably do as I wish), and the sample I tested was the cologne, so well. It was cheaper then (like two years ago) and I think she had a Black Friday sale (well I told her there was a sale). I doubt the Edp is as old as the cologne (but ok, release year unknown here). i bet it' s a "modern take of the classic cologne ". I m a huge fan of "No. 88 (Eau de Parfum) | Czech & Speake" which is a new Edp version of a presumably grandpa juice "No. 88 (Cologne) | Czech & Speake". My travel size of the Edp is now empty and at some point I wil buy the Edp of the cologne (which I didn't test...). But now there are tariffs and huge shipping costs from UK to European Union...a

... Thanks Smirky! Some of my favs are here! "Jockey Club (Cologne) | Caswell-Massey" I don't know them but heard of: "Mouchoir de Monsieur | Guerlain" "Pour Monsieur (Eau de Toilette Concentrée) | Chanel" (There must be some old YSL besides what you already put there, but I don't know if they are really available)

Which notes do you avoid?

Perfumes by Note, Accord, Genre
... Hi, I didn't see this thread ! Thanks @Pengola (you intrigued me with licorice note, which is actually a note I really like :-) It's funny to see what other like or just don't! I figure myself a rather omnivorous perfume raccoon (why a racoon, I don't know, but they are cute, smart and reckless). I'll say I like most of the notes mentioned. I don't smoke, and don't like the smell of tobacco smoke but don't associate tobacco notes with it (strange enough). I am vegetarian and really like (cruelty free) animalic notes. There is a weird opening in "X Santal | Bibbi" (some kind of spiced cucumber or melon), but I can go with it. The big deal-breaker for me is pineapple, the one you can find in "Club de Nuit Intense Man (Eau de Toilette) | Armaf" and other Aventus copycats (I didn't smell the real deal so may be I could stomach it). I can't eat it in real life too. But my sweetheart offered me "Magnetico | Adopt' / Réserve Naturelle" last year (a strong cheapie). She casually noticed "I liked it in shop, and then I remembered you don't like pineapple. Well, live with it". And well, funnily enough I can wear it, and not only to please her. Agreed, love is (nose) blind, but it's not the same note either. I really don't like the iris in "Dior Homme Intense (2011) | Dior" and its friends "Valentino Uomo Intense (2016) | Valentino" , "Gentleman Givenchy (Eau de Parfum) | Givenchy". But I am quite infatuated with "Louis | The Zoo" which contains a fair amount of "orris root" (I guess the root and the flower are not the same thing). Some fruity notes I don't really like (for example passion fruit), but I feel i could be convinced by a good blend. (And as some other, my sweetness-candy-alert is easily triggered.) Some notes get me sick but it's when I am already a bit nauseous, so i don't know if it's the cause and didn't figure out exactly which ones...

... Hi, thanks for the report. I also ordered the samples set form Marlou. But I didn't test it properly yet. It's stupid but the mini splash vials make me "think" before testing it, it's less straightforward than sprayer for me. I just tried Ambilux and Poudrextase I think. i found it pleasant (not the Behemoths I thought it would be) and my lady liked it (But she is Ok with "Afrika-Olifant | Nishane" or "Opus XIII - Silver Oud | Amouage" too). I could dodge the shipping costs of the Marlou discovery scent by shipping it to my parents' place in France, which then sent it to Belgium with all the Christmas gifts I couldn't take with me with a low cost shipment service. It's within Europe so it's affordable. But I get also frustrated when I see the shipping/customs costs from US, Oman or UK...

Perfume Recommendations
... Hi all, sorry, busy with my sister and nieces after Paris (my youngest niece had opened and rummaged in the discovery set of the devil scent project my sister brought me, but I guess it was to be really sure it was good stuff her mother was offering me ). Thanks for your comments! A few remarks: For the samples, with a bit of confidence (which I sometimes lack) you can get a few for free. I agree with @Smirky they are a few grumpy sales assistants, which for the well-being of everyone including themselves should maybe look for another job (and agreed, it's not an easy job if you don't like it), and the majority who are at least neutral and professional (Jovoy), friendly (Memo, some Nicolaï shops), or real show-stopppers (the guy for Jardin d'Ecrivain). @Tzapan and @Ceesie , I heard good things of Mauboussin, wil try it. And some Etat Libre d'Orange are fun (I have to retry "Une Amourette - Roland Mouret | Etat Libre d'Orange", "Noël au Balcon | Etat Libre d'Orange" is ... christmassy, the white florals of "Yes I Do, Don't Get Me Wrong Baby | Etat Libre d'Orange", the green rose in "You Or Someone Like You | Etat Libre d'Orange" . @DrDre10 yes it is quite overwhelming. You feel everything is here... But then as @Raluko111 I thought, well the beating heart of French perfumery might actually just be in Grasse. I didn't know about the museum! The enthusiastic owner of Jardins d'Ecrivain, struggling with his wife to make affordable niche fragrances told me: "Niche prices are going absurd. At the end of the day, all is done in Grasse in the same factories... The differences in prices are too huge to be honest" (I guess some raw materials are more expensive than other though.) I think the trick for this week-end was that we were care-free, with no kids, no schedule, and a tacit no-meeting-friends-or-family policy. The weather was also good on Saturday and Sunday. My sweetheart was ok to stroll in a perfume store and she had a bit of fun here too (in the Jardins d'Ecrivain store). At an unexpected time, wandering in Montmartre on Saturday she vented: "well I guess Paris is really the city of lovers". But it was also because we had time to be so...

Perfume Recommendations
... HI, following the hint of @Ebichuunee, and against my good resolutions I persuaded my sweetheart that we (or I have to go to the shop of Jardins d'écrivains ("Writer's garden")/Gri Gri/ Chapelle Factory /Les cocottes de Paris. (It is one house in four "brands" I guess). It's near the Bastille place. It was an amazing experience. The shop is "inhabited" by the husband of the perfumer. It is really the soul of the shop. He is passionate about the work of his wife, and one can guess of his wife herself. For a small house, they have a really great range of perfumes and struggle for affordable niche offerings. It's fascinating. I entered wanting only to buy some of their 5ml testers. But the guy said that in this shop, testers are for free (5 ml !!). But then I thought :"Ok I 'll see my sister next, it would be great to have a gift for her". We tested many things, which he systematically sprayed on two blotters, one for each. I checked many times if my lady was not bored. But the man was so enthusiastic that she was also enthralled and went on to test what she wanted. We narrowed down our choice to "Tara Mantra | Gri Gri" (but in Cologne concentration, the Edp was no available) for my sis. It's inspired by the Indian tradition of tattoo. First we thought it would please her. And then she got tatooed in South Asia years ago. So finger crossed... We were both quite convinced by the huge case the uxorious owner made for their Eau de Cologne ( 300ml, with a sprayer that would kill a prehistoric dragonfly) . "L'Eau de Blixen | Jardins d'Écrivains" was great, and my sweetheart liked another one , I think "L'Eau de Tagore | Jardins d'Écrivains" . A shy young man next to us bought "L'Eau de Kakuzô | Jardins d'Écrivains", a clean floral. The owner was very supportive to this young lad, telling him that he can wear it for himself, but if he is bolder in his spraying, girls will just pounce on him. (I asked my darling some feminine wisdom about it. She imparted that no perfume would turn an uninterested lady into a pouncing panther. But a good perfume may help with an already slightly interested woman.) In the end we left with a 250 ml cologne for my sis (gotta press this sprayer girl). And with a haul of 5ml testers : "L'Eau de Blixen | Jardins d'Écrivains" , which i plan to buy for my sweetie, the EdP I was no sure which one I like most : my ranking for instance 1) "Orlando | Jardins d'Écrivains" 2) "George | Jardins d'Écrivains" 3) "Alcools | Jardins d'Écrivains". The owner insisted that I take also "L'Eau de Louÿs | Jardins d'Écrivains" because I have to love it. I discovered that with the cologne was also a"try me first" tester for my sis! Which surely I will "borrow" her. All in all, a great experience. **** After this wonderful experience, I reached a temporary satiety. But today, while going to a museum we passed by a Nicolaï shop. "Won't you go there, honey ?" said my girl - No, no, I like this house.... but no, I'll behave. Let's ho to this museum". But when coming back, I said I wanted one our two samples. The male sales assistant was very unfriendly. I couldn't take a blotter while he was busy with another guy (ok...). He sneered when I wanted to see the notes. "You said you smelled lavender because you read it!" He said - "ugh sorry, I felt it and read it afterwards!" My lady saved me. She was waiting outside and made an impatient face. I said to the guy, "Sorry I have to go! But can i have a sample of "Angelys Pear | Nicolaï / Parfums de Nicolaï" ". He grudgingly handed me one. "I was curious how you would handle an unfriendly sale assistant! He had such a straight face!" said my sweetheart, knowing how impressed I can be... - Well you actually saved me with your "can we go already " role-playing ". - At least you got your sample. Now let's eat!" (This was the shop "rue des archives". For a better Nicolaï experience, I would advice the shop in 80, rue de Grenelle, 75007 Paris, is a looot nicer!) Now I will meet my sister (with her samples from the Us...)
