Warm, fruity florals
Fernqueen

Perfume Recommendations
... I like "Perfect | Marc Jacobs" (technically, the Dossier dupe of it), "Wild Poppy | Nest", and "Electric Cherry | Tom Ford". I'm a big fan of rhubarb and ginger notes, they're fruity without being too sweet and do a good job balancing florals. To me they have a younger/more playful vibe without veering into "juvenile".

Love letter to White Florals
Fernqueen

Perfumes by Note, Accord, Genre
... I love white florals as well, but tend to prefer mine a little green. I've been wearing "Armani Privé - Jasmin Kusamono | Giorgio Armani" often during the warmer weather, but it looks like Armani recently discontinued it. It's the only aquatic scent I've found that doesn't turn sour on me. "Joyeuse Tubéreuse | Guerlain" is my absolute favorite, though. For some reason it reminds me a lot of "Vétiver Extraordinaire | Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle" but more "feminine" of course. I would smell like it all the time if I could, but still saving up for a full bottle.

Which notes do you avoid?
Fernqueen
|
Perfumes by Note, Accord, Genre
... The only notes I strictly avoid are mint (allergy) and lavender (one of my least favorite scents ever). I rarely get along with neroli – to me it smells like candy and tends to suffocate everything else. I think I don't like rose, leather, tobacco, musk, or a lot of tropical fruits (pineapple, coconut, etc) but sometimes I'm surprised so they aren't automatic rule outs for me. Papaya is one of the worst things I've ever smelled so I was surprised when I learned it was a note in "Brigitte (Eau de Parfum) | Tocca", which was the first perfume I really "liked" and was my signature scent for many years (also has a number of the other notes I mentioned). "Armani Privé - Magenta Tanzanite | Giorgio Armani" was probably the fastest I purchased a full bottle after sampling and became my de facto fall/winter scent. I try to keep an open mind, particularly if the other notes or overall mix appeals and especially if I'm a fan of the house generally. Frederic Malle has gotten me to test a few things I never would have looked twice at otherwise.

Statements vs. Reviews

Parfumo Community
... Raluko111 Fernqueen I find statements very useful for quickly deciding how interested I am in smelling something (e.g., adding it to my watchlist). A lot of the reviews on Parfumo are...well, overly florid and not super practical in determining whether I will like something. I totally get perfumes having ~vibes~ and all, but I would prefer to read those types of reviews at my leisure and not have to wade through them to get to the more immediately useful information. It doesn't make much sense to me to put more in-depth info on top of succinct info, personally. One review takes up the same space as 2 or more statements, and only (up to) 10 statements are displayed by default, so you don't really need to scroll that much. Yeah, in theory, I agree, but in practice... Most of the statements I come across don`t give me anything much beyond what I can glean from the pyramid of notes. I kind of don`t see the point of most of them. Agree to disagree. :) I still think statements about notes can offer new information. For example, if everyone mentions a particular note then I know it's going to be dominant player, which will likely influence my level of interest depending on my opinion of the note. Another example would be the execution of a note, like the leaves vs the fruit vs the flower or cold vs warm incense.

... So recently it's been "Joyeuse Tubéreuse | Guerlain" and "Marfa (Eau de Parfum) | Memo Paris" because I love tuberose, apparently!

SMN? Santa Maria Novella? Anyone?

... Thanks for sharing! She does (or did) have a perfumer (heavily implied to also be a poisoner and seemingly selected for that reason, but that particular skill is never depicted being put to use) on the show, but otherwise the character doesn't seem related the real person. My partner and I were both very impressed by the idea of having your own perfumer on retainer, though!

... I'm confused about the Catherine de Medici connection — did they actually make a perfume she wore (I thought she had her own perfumer?) or simply market one inspired by her? Not super related, but my partner and I just finished the first season The Serpent Queen (I believe season 2 is airing now), which stars Samantha Morton as Catherine. (I know her from Harlots, a show I adored until they condemned a fan favorite character to a cheap fate because the actor was departing the show, despite having enough advance notice to have written something passable.) We weren't expecting to enjoy it much based on our initial impression of the production value and it being a Starz title, but we were hooked after the first episode because the writing was so good! (The costume design is also fantastic, even if the lighting etc. aren't of the slick, high drama variety seen on most shows these days. Some of my favorite looks and I watch a lot of historical stuff, primarily for the clothes!)

... I really like "Perfect | Marc Jacobs". It's mass appealing enough to be worn anywhere but feels different to the ubiquitous florals and gourmands marketed to women that seem to dominate department store displays.

Which fragrances where your signature scents over the years?
Fernqueen
|
Perfume Discussions
... Only "Brigitte (Eau de Parfum) | Tocca". To me a signature scent is one you wear daily for many years, so I'm not sure how you could have dozens or struggle to remember them all. There are scents I certainly wear often these days but none on most days throughout all seasons, so I wouldn't consider them "signature" scents.

... Welcome! I find that the UI/UX here is leagues better than Fragrantica, and the information/reviews for fragrances much more useful. I also look that there's a built-in, easy to use marketplace — I just hope the community continues to grow so there's more available. 😊

Discussion on perfume trends and what lies underneath trends
Fernqueen
|
Perfumes & Brands
... Omnipotato I think trends apply more to designer fragrances and the bigger niche houses (which are owned by the same parent companies as the designer houses anyway). It's more the "style" of fragrance in my opinion that trends rather than a particular note, for example, nowadays we're getting flooded with sweet aromatic ambers like "Myslf | Yves Saint Laurent" and "Ralph's Club | Ralph Lauren". Lots of fragrances like "Apex (Eau de Parfum) | Roja Parfums", "Absolu Aventus | Creed", etc. are taking cues from "Sauvage Elixir | Dior" with similar spicy-sweet drydowns. Also, "Baccarat Rouge 540 (Eau de Parfum) | Maison Francis Kurkdjian" started a huge trend with its combination of saffron, ambroxan, and ethyl maltol that has been used as the base for many fragrances with added notes: "Oud for Greatness | Initio" added oud, "Spirito Fiorentino | Tiziana Terenzi" added leather, etc. So I guess what I'm saying is I agree with you that the trends usually follow immensely successful fragrances. You mentioned "Aventus | Creed" and my examples were "Sauvage Elixir | Dior" and "Baccarat Rouge 540 (Eau de Parfum) | Maison Francis Kurkdjian" but I think it's definitely true. Totally agree and you put it better than I could have.
