... "Black Musk | Al Haramain / الحرمين" Many seem to feel this is a clone of Oud For Greatness. I acknowledge the similarity, but I think Al Haramain has put their own spin on the DNA. They did something like that with their "Amber Musk | Al Haramain / الحرمين". In a similar vein to Ombre Nomade but IMO not exactly a clone. Both offer above-average longevity with respectable projection & sillage. And they're under $50. Unfortunately Initio and Luis Vuitton are beyond my means for the time being. ~ I also have - and like - Ajmal's Crescendo Of Oud , a very inexpensive take on Ombre Nomade which performs decently. A personal favorite along these lines is "Ignite Oud | Ahmed Al Maghribi" Not a dupe, yet in much the same ballpark. Both are superior to the clone I bought years ago, Lueur d'Espoir Ambre. ~ Another one I love in this general family i s the marvelous Al Wafia Blue Oud from Ibrahim Al Qurashi . Its florals are downright haunting. And it lasts well. (Not to be confused with Blue Oud by Ahmed Al Maghribi. A very nice all-purpose grab, but not transcendent the way the Al Qurashi is for me.) I also own "Blue Oud | Lattafa / لطافة" That turned out not to be something I'd wear, though its sibling "Opulent Oud | Lattafa / لطافة" isn't terrible.

What's your ultimate pick-me-up perfume?

... Citrus - orange especially - just makes me happier. I've got a little pure neroli oil roll-on that acts like a half-hour mood elevator. Happy For Men (Clinique) is a favorite for me but only lasts for two or three hours. Portfolio Neroli Canvas (Al Haramain) lasts four to six hours. I like this one a lot, along with two others in the Portfolio line, Oriental Forest and Imperial Oud. Hey, how are you inserting links to a particular frag in your posts? I've tried several ways and the software doesn't want to let me post a link in the text as the button-with-pic that I want.

Lattafa perfumes - hit or miss for you?

... I have quite a number of Lattafas now. While none rise to the level of true greatness, I can't think of a single one that wasn't worth the price. One can tell they're not expensive scents, but a handful have become favorites. A big +1 on Ameer Al Oud Intense , along with Raghba Wood Intense and Majd Al Sultan . Maahir Black is dark & smoky; when I want to make a statement I layer it with Black Oudh by Khalis. In more sophisticated Lattafa scents I like Mohra and Al Awsaaf . Fakhar Black and Ejaazi both are good warm-weather grabs, and Liam Grey is a good one for Autumn & Winter along with Eternal Oud . Maahir Legacy in the Springtime. A nfas Oud has the incense base of Interlude Man without the oregano that makes so many clones a 'no' for me. Najdia Tribute is leathery & mysterious. Oud Lail Maleki , a good date night scent. Also fond of Qaa'ed and its flankers Q aa'ed Al Shabaab and Qaa'ed Intense (another good date night scent). Rouat Al Oud , too - smells like tamarind to me. Atlas and Emeer both are beast mode powerful, pretty remarkable at their price points. Some I didn't like as much: Asad, Sheikh Al Shuyukh Luxe, Blue Oud (the Lattafa one - however the Blu Oud from Ahmed Al Maghribi is great, and Blue Oud by Ibrahim Al Qurashi is downright regal). A few others that weren't for me are Qaed Al Fursan, Ramz Silver, Sha'ar i, and Vintage Radio. None were awful, they just didn't suit my tastes.

... I wore the same scent for three decades until it was discontinued in 2001. Nowadays I'd have to mix things up a bit - my tastes are too eclectic for one to suit all occasions & moods. I could probably be satisfied with five or six. I'd need one floral, at least one leather, at least one oud, one or two that are green/herbal, and one that's more mainstream/cologney. Also one that's fruity and/or gourmand. Okay, eight or nine. Maybe a dozen.

Hot tyres / rubber smell - help!!!!!

... Sometimes with a recent buy, the rubber smell subsides after a while. I've never noticed it with gaiac but I sometimes get that sort of impression from leather scents, and it has sometimes gone away with time. The pulse points on my wrists and inside the elbows can be quite sensitive to strong concentrations. I get a rash there occasionally from powerful fragrances. Hoping that for you the reaction isn't an actual allergy, but just skin sensitivity. Good luck.

Do you store your frag in the box?
Eclectic
|
Perfume Discussions
... I have sixty or seventy out at any given time - there simply isn't room to keep them in the boxes. Plus, as noted above, it'd be inconvenient having to unbox each one every time I want to spray it. I keep the boxes though; when I rotate for the seasons I do store the unused scents in their boxes. EDIT: My bedroom window is sealed, so there's no daylight. Bottles only see light when the lamp is on.

Scent differs between 10 ml and 2 ml ombre nomade

... Raspberry/rose with leather undertones sounds like a decent capsule description of Ombre Nomade. To my nose the oud is present, even a bit primal - but the fecal 'barnyard' oud note is not part of the profile. A real Luis Vuitton scent would have macerated before bottling. It would not need to settle/mature the way clone frags do. Just my two cents; I'm no expert.

... FWIW, Fragrance World's Spectre For Men is said to be a dupe of Falcon Leather. Can't say how close it is to the original, but I like the scent. It also lasts pretty well and has strong projection for the first 1½ hours.

... I also like Al Bashiq from Nabeel. Deep and resinous leather, yet not too dark. Very affordable - said to be a cheap cousin of the rather pricey Abjar by The Spirit Of Dubai, which is Nabeel's parent company.

What's your top "feel good" mood-lifter fragrance?

... I find it helps to have one person that you can use as a regular sounding board. That way they can give you an objective take on the relative strength & projection of various different scents - as well as letting you know which ones they like or don't - without worrying you'll be offended. As mentioned, strangers may be reluctant to comment on your fragrance even if they like it, but especially if they don't like it or it's too strong . And like you say, it may be that folks near you just can't smell your frags. Some people's skin chemistry kills scents altogether; for others, certain fragrance compounds or specific notes are weaker on them than on most. We become more or less desensitized to frags when we're wearing them so it's hard to tell for yourself. Of course even when things are working fine, everyone's chemistry is a little different.

... Iso-E Super and ambroxan are two aroma chemicals commonly used in modern fragrances. Iso-E dramatically increases projection, and ambroxan has taken the place of ambergris to aid blending and extend longevity. Each adds something of its own to the scent profile as well. https://perfumeson.com/how-to-. ..

... Yah, the same overdose of fragrance chemicals that gives it nuclear strength can make you noseblind with a single whiff. Try not wearing it for a couple of days, then spray it on a test strip - DO NOT sniff the strip! Leave it in a room where you can pass by once in a while at a distance of several feet. You may find it permeates the room in a few hours and lasts a fairly long time.

Your thoughts on layering

Perfume Discussions
... I tend to feel that high quality fragrances are better balanced, and I'd only layer them for a very specific purpose. I feel more free to experiment with cheapies; occasionally they're lacking a certain something and it's fun to see if I can improve on them.
