... I mean, I haven't yet tried any of the other flankers, so there's not much hype going on for me either. Would still be interested in giving it a sniff if I get the chance, but I don't see myself getting excited for it.

Any notes on how a fragrance progressed from no to yes?

... "Opus XIII - Silver Oud | Amouage" for me. First time I tried it, I was instantly repulsed. That strong barnyardy smell was unlike anything I ever smelled. But arguably, given it was the first proper oud fragrance I laid my nose on, it's no surprise I reacted that way. However, the dry down had me intrigued, and with the help of many others around here on Parfumo which kept telling me to give it a couple more chances, I kept going and testing it. And now, after properly discovering it and understanding the scent, it has become one of my favorite fragrances. Went from a 5/10 to a very solid 9.5/10

Which brand do you guys recommend getting a discovery set?

Perfume Recommendations
... There's really a ton to choose from, so it all comes down to your available budget. I'm currently working my way through the Nishane 21 Discovery Set, which goes for about $120 I believe. It's pretty nice to get a good idea of the house. If you want to keep it cheaper, they also got a smaller Discovery Set with 12 samples instead of 21. But imo, it's worth spending the extra cash. Xerjoff offers small sample sets of 4 samples of your choice for like about $30-$35 (shipping included). Another pretty great deal comes from Filippo Sorcinelli, with a 12 sample Discovery Set at about $60-$70 with all the samples of your choice. But if you really got the cash and want to go all in, the Amouage's Men Discovery Set is pretty nice. 12 2ml samples, but for $130, so on the pricier egde

Your Perfume Hot Takes
DAVID043329
|
Perfume Discussions
... Ceesie I don’t know exactly what a hot take means so I hope I’m not talking 💩 but to continue on the topic of openings and drydowns, I want a fragrance to captivate me completely. So both the opening and the drydown need to be top. Reason I say this is my recent experience with "Risvelium | Orto Parisi" . I hated the first couple of hours but it got so much better after that. But I won’t buy into it. I get it, it’s art and all that but I’ll put my money somewhere else. Generally, a hot take is an opinion or commentary about pretty much any subject that is provocative, bold, and most importantly, contrarian. For example, "pineapple on pizza is the best combination". Mostly, hot takes are just to get people talking, although in most cases it leads to heated arguments and debates

Your Perfume Hot Takes
DAVID043329

Perfume Discussions
... Let's hear it people. Drop down your hottest perfume takes. And also, let's try to do it in a civilized manner without starting a civil war around here :D I'll start: The opening of a fragrance barely matters. It can be a 10/10 opening or a 3/10; doesn't matter, given it will be pretty much gone in 10 minutes at most. The dry down is more important.

Atomizers...??
DAVID043329

... Ceesie You’ve clearly never sprayed with an atomizer from a Tauer perfume bottle @DAVID043329 , talking about dealbreakers 😝 There's no way it's that bad 😂

Atomizers...??
DAVID043329
|
Perfume Discussions
... It all comes down to the atomizer. Some atomizers spray off more fragrance per spray, while others spray less. It's that simple. And I'd say that atomizes do matter, but they should never be a deal-breaker. Preferably, you'll always want a pressurized atomizer that outputs a solid amount of fragrance per spray. But not all/that many fragrances get this treatment

What's your "hit rate" with samples (or blind buys)?
DAVID043329
|
Perfume Discussions
... Well, with samples, I pretty much get them, particularly Discovery Sets, to just discover the brand. But if it is a pick-your-own sample set, I just search for all the fragrances of that brand and pick the ones that have the notes that interest me. However, if the reviews aren't convincing on that fragrance, I might hesitate including it in the set. But so far, my hit rate has been pretty good, and I can confidently say that I'm getting better and better at just looking at a fragrance's notes and knowing if I'll like it or not.

How do you all use your perfume decants and samples?
DAVID043329
|
Perfume Discussions
... Mainly, I am more invested in decants/samples because I want to try as much as I can without having to buy a FB blindly which I might not even like enough to get to wear all of it. Secondly, I pretty much give each sample a week in which I test it and by the end of the week, I'll write a review for it. After that, that sample sort of joins my "free to wear" box, where I just wear it outside my usual testing process, depending on the situation, weather, mood, etc. I do give away some of them to my cousins after I'm done reviewing them, particularly with scents I'm not too fond of, but that my cousins might enjoy.

Love letter to White Florals
DAVID043329

Perfumes by Note, Accord, Genre
... Chrysoptera I'm just starting to educate myself on fragrances. As I've been sampling like crazy and the weather gets warmer here in the northern hemisphere, my most surprising discovery is my love for white florals. There's nothing more romantic to me. I like them sweet and heady and over the top. Give me indolic and bubblegummy. I love them all. Here are my favorites with white florals so far: "Ashore | Amouage" Sultry jasmine, candyish rose water, and mineral sea salt. "Honour 43 | Amouage" Jasmine, tuberose, and gardenia with beautiful fresh green notes and resins. More refined than ultra romantic. "Love Tuberose | Amouage" Luscious tuberose, jasmine, and gardenia with just a little vanilla cream. "Moon Bloom | Hiram Green" Natural indolic jasmine and tuberose along with coconut milk, green leaves, and cloves. I have a sample of "Carnal Flower (Eau de Parfum) | Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle" to try next. What are your favorite white floral fragrances? If you haven't already, try "Tuberóza (Extrait de Parfum) | Nishane". Quite a pleasant floral, although short-lived on my skin

Is a winter fragrance wearable in summer?
DAVID043329
|
Perfume Discussions
... AlanM DAVID043329 If it's predominantly sweet, no, I would definitely stay away from it in the summer. If it contains oud, leather, or amber notes, however, and isn't sweet in the traditional sense, then yeah, definitely. The examples you gave are definitely some I'd keep for the colder weather. Ok thx, because I want to test Black Afgano for summer I think it's my signature Hey, in the end, if you like it, you like it and wear it whenever you want! Just keep the number of sprays lower in high heat if you plan wearing heavier, sweeter scents
